Similar thing happened to my great uncle Jim in August 1940 during the Battle of Britain. He was whitewashing his house when a He111 dropped a bomb nearby. According to family lore, the paint flew one way the paintbrush the other and the house fell down. Supposedly his hair turned white overnight. My great grandmother described the Heinkel as 'like a big black bird'
Not so funny later though was when the He111 went on to bomb a creamery killing several girls.
So what? Well all this happened in County Wexford in neutral Eire as we were called at the time. The Heinkel was obviously hopelessly lost and bombing targets of opportunity. Although it was said that the creamery was bombed because it was supplying butter to Britain. In my opinion that over estimates the intelligence capability of Luftwaffe. Not to mention the fact that a creamery hardly rates as a strategic target.
After the war, Uncle Jim was compensated for his house and built a nice new one which I visited. The bomb crater was still there at the time.
