Skin guidelines question
« on: January 20, 2006, 12:50:00 AM »
I am thinking of doing a Romanian Fw190 F8, as I often fly the F8 in place of the IAR-81C (both had a pair of 20mm and a pair of 7.7mm MGs and carried almost identical bombloads). The skin I want to make is based on a real Romanian one, but it is not known if any of them (the ARR had about  dozen that they took over after the Germans left them behind) actually saw combat. Some sources state that they were acquired after the Romaians switched sides in August of 1944, but if so they would NOT have been painted with the Mihai cross (especially not on a German-built plane), as these were replace with roundels almost immediately after the coup.

As this is a historical skin, and not a captured aircraft (they were fighting alongside each other at the time) would it be allowed? Or would it be disallowed since its combat use cannot be proven?

Try emailing Skuzzy directly, Treize.

I'm not sure if I understand it correctly though. Are you saying the above paintscheme is a Romanian Fw190 presumed to be in use in the ARR? In that case, you might want to send some relevant info supporting the fact with your inquiry via email.

It was used, but it can't be proven that they saw combat. There are photos of them and listings of them in the inventories, but no surviving reports of them actually being used in the fighting.

I think all that matters is that it's a real wartime skin for a real plane.  Combat isn't a real factor, because we have the all-red Me163 skin, which was for the prototype that never fired a shot IIRC :).
