I would suggest enabling planes from the carriers. Might create a battle of midway type deal.   Hitting the other guys fleet while his planes were gone would be cool

I see a potential problem.  Anyone on the same country would be able to use map to find each other.  A frame w/ on 3 ships would rectify this, but I am interested if you have a better way to deal w/ this

P.S. I will poll my squad for interest.  Most likely will attend a frame.

In answer to Jarbo, at first yes the 2 fleets belonging to the same country will be able to see each other. However, killshooter will be on as well as "Protect objects". Meaning you will be unable to damage your own country's other fleet.

After 3 fleets have been sunk, the remaining three (no matter what country they are) will be switched so that all 3 are opposeing country's. Yes I've tested this, and changing country affiliation seems to have no effect on the fleet or those manning it.

Hblair, I considered it, however it opens up the potential for issues I'd rather not face in this first trial mini event. In the event that interest for this runs high, and we decide to do it again that would certainly be an option to consider. Frankly we do not currently have the planeset to support such a plan in a Axis vs Allied setup. While some wouldn't mind TBM's vs TBM's thats not where my interest lies. I'm going way out on a limb here as it is. I also considered enableing C-47, zeke, etc for spotting & recon. But felt that the PT boats reinforced the fleet vs fleet theme.

Allowing captains to decide how to marshall their forces will I believe make this event very interesting from a tatical standpoint.

Remember, this whole idea depends on you the players haveing an interest and wanting to try it. The CV vs CV battles in the SEA last week is what sparked my interest in giveing this a try.

Anytime someone comes up with an well thought out idea of an event they'd like to try. Please write it up to the best of your ability, post it in the special events forum.

I can promise that the CM staff will take a very close impartial look at your proposal. Tear it apart, put it back together again, and then see if anyone wants to fly in it!

Bear in mind however that we are all anxiously awaiting release of the latest version of the terrain editor. So that current terrains can be upgraded, submitted, and put to work in the SEA.

Sounds like fun.

But alas the The New Baby Harp Seals are no longer a squad(Kieren had to quit because of conx)so I won't be able to attend.
I have been reborn a new man!

Notice I never said a better man.

Buccaneers reporting for duty (with a squad name like that, we HAVE to be a part of this  ).  I'll volunteer as Commodore for the time being (I'll ask my squadies to either ratify me in the position, or pick someone else).  This sounds great!  I used to play a table-top war game called "Battlewagon," and it'l be interesting to see how close to that very impressive game this virtual re-enactment comes.

I concur with your decision to keep a/c out of this, Ghosth.  What you're really simulating here is a Jutland-era naval conflict, and a/c had virtually no role in that grand little yacht race.  The PTs will serve admirably as scouts, though I am concerned that only allowinig a max of eight players will make scouting very hard.  I'd like to suggest you allow a max of four PT's per fleet, but with the understanding that PT skippers be allowed a second life to man guns once they die the first time.  This will make for some suicide runs by the PT's, but hey: they were expendable, right (remember that old John Wayne move, "They Were Expendable?)?

There are some problems with the scenario that we'll have to live with, of course.  First, if the cv dies the fleet dies.  This is neither reasonable in a fleet-on-fleet exercise, nor realistic.  No way to turn this off, unfortunately.  Second, it would be great if the TG commander could select between different formations (line astern, line abreast, CV screen, etc).  Third, there are some much need visual effects that are missing, such as funnel smoke (making it easier to see if an enemy was over the horizon), haze (conversely making long-range gunnery harder), smoke and fire from damaged ships, and battle damage effects (loss of speed/maneuverablilty/guns/etc), among other things.  It would be realy great if the PTs and DDs had their smoke generators, too.  This last shouldn't be that hard to implement, but I don't know what it'd do to frame-rate.  Ah well, it IS a flight sim after all, not a naval sim.  I can dream though, can't I?

Looking forward to it.  One of our guys, Eskimo, is a born artillery man.  "Form battle line!"

Hmmm, you make some good points rojo!

All right, for the time being I'll take the 4 pt boat idea provideing it sounds good to everyone else. PT boat drivers will have to ask me to enable flight opps for them but I can deal with that.

Will post the change in the special events forum.

Mighty, you telling me you don't know 6 or 7 other guys who'd get together to give this a shot? Yes, it was "aimed" to give Aces High a
squadron based event. However, any reasonably sized group of friends, aquantances, or street bums that can agree on a captain are in if they want in!

Start a thread in special events forum stateing that your looking for other like minded unattached fleet gunners.
