Are there any records of how well or successful the tail gun was for the 110 and how did they use it?

Well, as far as use, they pointed it at the enemy plane and pulled the trigger.

Historically, I'm not sure. But I think it was very ineffective. In this game I can tell you IT IS very ineffective. You may get lucky from time to time but overall you'll be toast sitting in gun position trying to down a fighter. Better to be in the pilot seat and out fly them.

BTW, who gets the kill if an aircraft gunner shoots down a plane? Does it go to the pilot? The gunner? Both?

If the guner gets the kill he scores it. Also the gunner can exit anytime and it will say "whatshisname" 2 or more victories as a gunner observer....or somthing like that.

Basically, the only kills a 110 or a Il2 gunner is going to get is on a zeke or some other very lightly armored aircraft.

Otherwise, they best they can hope for is a radiator hit.

I have killed multiple P-51D's using the Il-2's tail gun and I well remember poping the tail off of an La-7 that tried to vulch me with it (don't really know how the tail came off as I was shooting at his front). I've killed an F4U with the B5N2's tail gun once.

You can get kills with the Il-2's tail gun. But it is 12.7mm. The Bf110's are 7.92mm.

Being or having a gunner is always fun, helps for those long flights. Gives you a sense of security.

Hey Dud FYI, it might be a while until I re-sub and fly, my mobo took to the ghost and I don't have the money yet to sub!
