Need Console Advice
« on: January 23, 2006, 02:24:02 PM »
I've been reading and pondering and want to buy a console system--the question--is the xbox 360 all that? Are there enough games to make it worthy? Does it only work with the TV or can I use it on my monitor?

Should I be looking at something else, too?

Many thanks for your help.

My suggestion would be not to buy a console this time around. Spend your money toward a new computer or upgrading it. The new nintendo is supposed to be alright, but the controller is the worst thing ve ever seen. Xbox-360 is amazing but I dont think its worth that much money right now, maybe in a year when prices drop. The PS3 is supposed to be good to, but again the price is going to be sky high.

But if your bent on getting a console Id go with a Xbox-360.

Oh I can wait--I was just thinking that the xbox prices will be dropping soon--according to the press--but I hadn't heard about the controllers -- I was actually vacillating between replacing my 10+ year old analog CH gear with a fancy new usb set up--and the console--the prices are pretty equal.

thanks for the reply.

The nintendo controller looks like a remote control for a tv. and it has another one attached to it you point at the screen and play games like that. Almost like a wireless mouse.

I did this and have been really happy I did (well my analog set was only 7 years old, but anyway ;))

My biggest obstacle is using those controllers.  I think my hands are lacking the tendons and coordination required to use every view, button, trigger, etc!

Today's controllers are aimed at those of use who grew up with them as our parents.

Wait for the PS3, watch prices fall, choose.

Your target audience should also be taken into consideration.

I got a PS2 and that was great for me but after we had it for a while we found all the games my kids wanted to play were on the Gamecube.

Ended up buying them a Gamecube and they've never been happier.

Xbox and PS2 are geared more toward a mature audience.

I thought about getting a console once.  Went to the store and the person working there was very helpful.  Set me up with a game and a test drive of the thing.

After about 30 seconds into the game, I lost control of the controller,..sent it flying through a nearby plate glass store window.  Purely an accident and the person helping was standing there,..completely dumbfounded..."I have never seen anything like that in my entire life", was all he could muster.

I asked if it had a keyboard and mouse as an option,...as the store manager was directing me out of the store.

Nope,..I just do not believe a console is in my future.
