A couple of summers ago we had picked up one of those pools you see everywhere now with the inflatable ring at the top and you fill with water about 2 1/2 feet deep and about 10 foot across. anywya. alot of the summer it was too cool to use so we had the cover on it to keep the leaves from the tree in our backyard out.

anyway one day it was finally hot enough to use so we had the cover off.
Now the cats must have been walking over the top cover as its the only way to explain what follows.

Im standing at my back door looking at one of the cats walking next to the pool in the backyard when suddenly he jumps up as if to go on top of it.

Well like I said. He mush have been used to being able to jump on the top and walk across the cover because in midair you can see that water being there was NOT what he expected. While he was still in the air and before he even touched down you could see him cpletely freak out and twist and contort his body in a futile attempt to change his mind and the direction he was headed.
He ended up landing 2/3s of the way into the pool just holding onto the edge with his claws.
I never saw anything jump out of a pool faster in my life.

I musta been laughing hysterically for a full ten minutes afterwards.

That sight alone was worth the patches I had to put on the pool

Cats doing stupid things are just hilarious because we see cats all their lives trying to act smart and graceful.

Dogs doing stupid things is just expected.

Cats know when they blow it, and are malevolent about it if laughed at.

Had old Hairball do a spectacular headifrst dive into the toilet bowl (which the wife had 'tidy-bowled with the blue stuff) when she was startled off the bathroom window sill by my yanking the shower curtain open after a shower. She made the leap for the sink, the dog was waiting for it and the cat tried a mid-leap course correction, winding up in the toilet bowl.

The mental film of a furious dripping wet half blue cat kicking the living **** outta the dog immediately afterwards will forever be one of the funniest cat moments I've witnessed in history.
