Help me name this gadget
« on: January 25, 2006, 10:13:48 PM »
Ok I got this, what I think is a tablet pc, or at least a VERY big PDA.  It doesn't have any markings on it except a serial number on the back and a windows CE .net 4.2 Plus Pro sticker.  Can somone help me with the brand name and maybe even the model number.

it has a Mini USB port, PCMCIA port, LAN port SD card slot IR port ect.

Yes it was a gift from my 55 year old mother in law.  She has no clue what it does, the battery is dead and I don't have a power plug for it.  I'm reluctent to just plug a universal 5 volt P/S up to it as it probably does not have an internal regulator.

I Googled "JoyTeck"...they used to make something called a "WebPAD".  I Googled that...the description seems close:

Some of these look close:

Think of it as a hybrid, ie a tablet running a PDA OS (Windows CE, now know as Windows Mobile).

Its not a model I recognise, but its probably one of your more generic taiwanese companies. I'd plug in a universal 5volt PSU, just make sure the amps are highe nough. For software you just need to identify to CPU it uses (think you can find this via the OS).

It'd be useful round home for a portable web browsing device (its probably got wifi). Or if you do a lot of meetings/notes good for that two (the WinCE version will have good hand writing recognition built in).
