I am thinking of getting a Marushin die cast model. Opinions?
« on: January 17, 2001, 11:28:00 AM »
I am looking at getting the Marushin A6M5 or N1K2 die cast models.  Does anybody know anything about these?  Which do you think I should get?

JAPANESE MITSUBISHI ZERO A6M5 SPECIAL MARKINGS

JAPANESE GEORGE A343-15 FIGHTER

Thanks.

From the pictures (closest I've ever gotten to one) they do appear to have the highest quality and detail,  imo. But their price reflects it too.

I plan on buying the Yat Ming 1/48th scale P-47 (and the others too eventually) as well as the Armour P-38 that's supposed to be out now. The P-38 comes in the AH scheme and the Yat Ming P-47 I'll repaint to one I like. At $12-$15 for the Yat Ming I can afford to screw one or two up with the paint job

Here's the Armour P-38

Westy,
Yes, I was thinking of getting the P-38 after one of the Japanese aircraft.

I understand that the Armor Collection is going to be releasing a Spitfire this year.  I hope that it is a MkXIV, or at the very least a MkIX.  I am sick of all of the MkI and MkV Spitfires.  I want a late war Spit.

If they release a Spitfire F.MkXIV I'll buy it instantly.

Karnak...I bought the Marushin George from Aiken's Airplanes.

It's a really nice looking model...great detail, and does look just like the one in the picture.  Most of the parts are made of metal, including the prop, and the external detail is great, IMO.

There are a couple of things that I don't like about the model.  First, the cockpit really doesn't have any detail at all...there's a seat(devoid of detail) to mount in it, and a small pin (same pin used for gun barrels) for the control stick, and that's it.  Also, it would have been nice if the gun barrels were cast in black and with a flare at the end (i think this is how the real ones were).  As it is, they're just short crome pins...you can see them in the picture.

There's some assembly required, which is pretty easy to do.  I played around with it and screwed the wings on, and dry fit all the rest of the pieces before I moved, but didn't finish it, since I figured it'd survive the move better unassembled.  You'll need to get some metal to metal cement for final assembly.

Overall, I think it's a great model, and definitely worth the price I paid, despite my little gripes.

-edit- FYI, my purchase with Aiken's went flawlessly, and arrived pretty quickly to Oregon. -edit-

Thanks for the info SOB.  I will probably get the Zero first and then see what I think.  The Zero has always been the only radial engined aircraft that I thought was pretty.

StSanta

I have that 109 also. It is one of the two I got for Christmas from the wife. Mine is 1:48 scale. The biggy was an authentic Luft breast patch in matted frame with "Eagler" name plate. She's one of a kind

Thanks for the advice guys.

I ordered the Marushin A6M5 with special markings and the Armor Collection P-38 in invasion stripes.
