F6F in Europe?

I dont know the history on where the British used their F6Fs.

Where they used in the ETO, if so when?

If they where used could we add them to our current plane rotation?

The only time I can think of when the F6F's were used in Europe were Operation Anvil , and Operation Dragoon.  Both operations were conducted by the Royal Navy off Norway.
You would think they were used other places in Europe, but that the only time I've heard of them.

Operation Goodwood as well and many were used off British CVE's during the Invasion of Southern France. They provided most of the aircover for the operation.

While the Hellcats were mostly used in the Pacific, they did see time in the ETO. Would like to see them on one carrier at least when we get to the appropriate time frame in the RPS along with the TBM's, SBD's & F4F's.

What period of time we talkin? F4Fs 1943 and F6Fs 1944?

If you could force a atlantic paint scheme on the navy stuff I wouldn't mind at all.  But seeing a pacific paint scheme in europe would deflate my noodle :cry

You were right in part, I was picking on you about the Norway part.  So in essence you did correctly answer Tex on the usage of F6fs in the ETO.

I guess you had to dig deep to find the "scorn", but I will add you to my list of individuals that are sensitive to teasing and it won't happen again, sorry Shifty.

Actually I didnt dig at all. I just slopped out some sarcasim. I was really hoping there were more uses of the F6 in Eurpoe and you'd tell me about it.

Why?  :huh

They played a very importaint part operating from both USN & RN carriers in the ETO. Admitted it wasn't as much as in the PTO but there were many battles were carrier aircraft were present and should be in the set-up as well.

They played a role, donno if I would say it was important. FAA had F4U's too, so by that arguement we should enable them. At that point its gotten too close to the MA for my tastes.

I'm not saying they weren't there, I'm saying the focus is and should be on the primary ETO planes, not everything that flew for a particular side.

Yes... Let's see this first round of the RPS as Sable has planned it (not forgetting the Mosquito), I expect everyone to find a decent enough ride in the latest days of this setup, even without the Navy planes.
