Skuzzy, Nvidia Drivers....?
« on: January 27, 2006, 11:56:12 AM »
Skuzzy or anyone else that may know....

I am currently running at the game minimums for the video card with my Nvidia GForce4 Ti4200 64mb. The card runs great except in heavily popluated areas where it studders and fps drop in the toilet. Next to upgrading my VC, can installing the latest drivers for this card help? Or am I barking up the wrong tree to increase what little performance I can get from the current card?

Currently installed driver

Nvidia
4/7/2004
Version 5.6.7.3

Nvidia's website took me to this:

Forceware Release 80
Version 81.98
12/21/2005

Thanks in advance for your help!

newest drivers arn't always the best drivers. New driver more often optimize stuff on the newer cards and either don't help the old cards at all, or even cause problems with them. That is the card I was using for the longest time and it served me faithfully for a long time. It now resides in my wife computer that she uses to surf and run a word processor, put out to stud so to speak  :)

Time to upgrade

I think Skuzzy recommends 61.77 version driver, as the newer drivers are optimized like Fugative said.

WinXP driver 61.77
Delirium
80th "Headhunters"
Retired AH Trainer (but still teach the P38 selectively)

I found an air leak in my inflatable sheep and plugged the hole! Honest!

ya, upgrading can be a pain. I got a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 meg card now. New about $130, used  on Ebay $80. Runs great, and with my 2.4 CPU, and a gig of 3200 Ram get close to 100 FPS.

Good luck and happy hunting!

....oh and Del, its FugItive !   :D

I have the nvidia GEForce TI 4600 AGP 4x card 128 mb memory.  I read previous post recommending the 61.77 drivers.  I was using the new drivers 81.98 but decided to try the recommended drivers to see if there was a difference.  In doing so, my frame rate took a hit and I had frame rates in the 30 FPS and down to 20 to 25 FPS in crowds.  I went back to the 81.98 drivers and my frame rates are in the 60 to 70 range with my graphic scales at the maximum.
