Ive heard the best way to start is take a bmp of the map you want and put it in the editor. I really want to start learning this stuff. What is step 1? Ive found it somewhat confusing.

You are correct in that easiest way to create a map is to import it into the TE. But, the map must be a 1024 x 1024 grayscale bitmap. Where grayscale 0 (black) = water (zero sealevel) and 255 (pure white) is the maximum elevation for your map.

This is generally what the BMP looks like, but 1/2 size...

For some reason it doesnt want to show me the bmp image in the lower right corner. Seems I have stuff overlaying down there. Like there are buttons underneath but I cant see them, except just the edges. I did manage tomake a small map and flew from my base to an enemy base and got killed by ack. Success I think. MAG!C helped me with some of the first step stuff...I got alot more out of his interpretation than I did the instructions, but Im a "draw me a picture" type of fella.

The answer to your map question is in this thread...

If you can't see the entire TE, then increase your monitor resolution. When editing maps I shift my monitor to 1280 x 1024 from 1024 x 768.

1. can i create skins there? it wasn't mentioned in the description.
2. i know the resolutio package will cause issues, but will the skin
downloads cause playing problems? right now i only have a 64MB video
card, an nvidia geforce fx, i believe. but i am running with 1G of RAM
