um that would be the Fw-190D-9.  VVS captured some of them and actually used it in combat!

At least in the Finnish front the types seen were the Hurricane, which was maybe the most widely used one. Then the Tomahawk and P-39. P-39s appeared later in the war, while Hurricanes were the first lendlease planes to appear on the front, IIRC.

Hurricane wasn't much regarded by the Finnish pilots. "The easiest one to shoot down of the enemy fighters is the Hurricane. It is totally helpless against us below 3,000 meters. It is slow and very clumsy and unmanoeuvrable. Whenever you meet a Hurricane, engage it in a turn-fight, where it is totally at our mercy."

Tomahawk was faster and more dangerous. They caused much problems to the squadrons based at Eastern Karelia. Those units only had old types (Morane Saulnier 406, Fiat G.50, Fokker D.V, Fokker D.X, Gladiator, Lysander) and those were having hard times when engaged by the Tomahawks. Brewsters fared better.

P-39s were regarded highly, because their speed and powerful cannon.

Grendel, do you know, which Hurricane type they are speaking about? Mk2 a/b/c? 12*.303cal / 4 * 20mm?

Most likely the 8 gun / 12 gun and the Russian modified 2 x 20 mm + 2 x 12,7 mm variants.

This, from the finns about the Hurricane:

Now, what were they using against the Hurricane? An 8 gun Mk I or II is one of the best turners of WW2, - in that speed region. It should outturn and outroll the Spitty from series I to early V, outturn 109 etc. Not sure about Hawk, Brewster and such though....

IIRC it was about Brewster B-239 vs Hawker Hurricane.

Like "Pappy" Boyington said to interviewer about B-239 Brewster:
