Major rubber bullets in MA right now
« on: January 28, 2006, 03:12:41 PM »
Massive hits but no damage.

Happened every sortie I just flew. Was in a 190 with 4x20mm guns and swatted a Ju88 formation so hard I shoulda popped 2 planes instantly... He didn't even get a gas leak! I made 5-count-'em-5 attack runs on him and he never fscking smoked once!

Tempest in my sights took ungodly amounts of fire and NOTHING. Said tempest then killed me not long after wing a single ping wing-ripper.

Got chased by a Ki in a smoking p38. Ki was pinging me again and again and again and again..... in 5 minutes of him being 600 off my butt  I took hundreds of rounds but virtually no damage (surprised me but I was glad).

Sprayed a B17 at 20k from 1.5k out. Was in a p38. Hit his wing steadily and repeatedly outboard fo the engines (was trying to de-wing him). He opens up so I dive below and pull up shooting the hell out of the same wing, all he gets is a simple gas leak and instant ping later I'm in the tower dead (his first shots killed me instantly).

Up a spit16 because same b17s are hitting several fields. Climb as fast as I can up to 25k where the bastage is loitering, finally get into a postion, let his lead bomber have it with half my ammo in one burst. I see hit sprites ALL OVER the place. Instant single ping kills my oil. So I glide back down.

I say "Screw this" and log off.

NO DAMAGE BEING DONE!! WTF?!?!?!

Happens all the time... especially in LW planes... someone will invariably chant "film it"  you cant time shift and film an even after it happens.  glad to hear other planes besides the FW have the 1st ping engine oil kill bug.

Read a lot about rubber bullets but never experienced this problem myself. Very short burst in Ki is always enough to kill or make some visual damage (smoke or fuel). Most of the time I have enough ammo in Ki84 to get 5-6 kills (if they allowed me to do that what happens very seldom :))

But I never shoot on distance more than 200.

I would say that DM in AH is very demanding to the distance. May be it is unrealistic, I don't know, but even one .50 gun is deadly in AH from 200 yards.

I've had problems with rubber bullets from time to time.

POSSIBLE fixs are..........

Do a remove (standard nothing special) and then reboot and then reinstall into the same folder etc. then reboot again..  If you do this correctly you should lose none of your setting or sounds or skins.

That has helped me many times!  SEEMS like something on my system sometimes gets messed up and the only fix is a remove and reinstall.  It Usualy happens if I get a CTD or press alt+f4.  Perhaps the communication portion that talks with the AH server on my machine somehow gets porked occasionaly?  Could also be a buffer/cache thing and the rebooting clears it but when I think back the reboot only seemed to do nothing?  I had this problem when I was using W98 and seems to still happen with XP?

Other possibles.  Check for any recent installs of software changing anything!

Spyware? Trojan? Virus? Etc. May have just recently snuck onto your system via an email?

Noticed sometimes SEEMS like on my system the video rendering gets somehow out of synch with the server or maybe even what my computer sees??????  Then there is very little I can do but relog and hope for the best.  Not sure whats happening here.  Not sure I can explain it either.  It SEEMS like the servers is between 1/2 a second and a full second ahead of what I see and STAYS that way (this on my system could very easily be a connect issue, dialup at 37k). Collisions become a major problem when this happens as I can manuver to avoid and on my FE (what I see, but think my computer sees something different) I do avoid but I have a collision anyway and down I go.

It's like, sometimes, there is possibly a delay between what my computer sees and what I see or what the vid card renders on the monitor????????  If it is this then it could explain the problem.  You're shooting at what you SEE on your monitor, using the correct angle and timing you normally use, but your computer is seeing the con elsewhere so you will not hit unless you happen to aim where the computer actually sees the con????

I have NO idea if this is correct.  I haven't seen the code.  Not even sure I would understand the logic/timing being used by HTC to deal with the lag issues between systems, connections, and server hops anyway.

OH BTW HTC for making the effort to control lag etc......

Well that's my $0.02

Hope it maybe helps someone somewhere.

On topic: Ive had some "rubber bullets" issue in the MA as well... and know about a few others that do as well. I blamed it on my little MA time this tour, but maybe its internet hickups?

Tell me about it. I STILL can't believe I had to put over 400rds of .50 cal into that Spit Mk.I to take his wing off. And he was in my convergence (or that Hurri I perforated along the "tail break point" dotted line and through his wing root who STILL kept flying and I couldn't finish off before of his Yak-hole buddy got me).
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

very rarely i get huge ammounts of hits but no damage to enemy.

i often wonder if on his FE he only feels a few of them.

not really a problem though, i managed to head shot an la5 in a zeke from 650 yrds the other day as he roped me.

its all an uncertainty, but chalk it down to 'lifes like that' and you enjoy it alot more.

I only really encountered this problem as soon as I turned my tracers off to improve upon my gunnery skills. Of course, I rarely use anything else than the Yak to dogfight so when I see numerous "hit" sprites I just have to assume that it's the relatively weak MGs hitting rather than the 20mm. But when I see an enemy's wing shatter into pieces, or a tail-section come clear off.. I have to get giddy in knowing that's the 20mm.

Of course, if you're seeing these rubber bullet issues with a plane with only cannons like the Hurri/Typhoon/C-Hog.. etc etc or heavily cannon based craft, then that's a real issue. If you're getting more than a couple hits per load.. and not seeing any dramatic results then that's interesting. God knows what 5 20mm rounds would do to an aircraft let alone 1 20mm round.    I'd have to blame latency issues, I suppose.

Tonight I upped a C-diddy from the carrier for some town demolition, and I ended up having to switch over to CAP mode for some guys that were RTB. In any event, any planes I hit (at least more than once) with the 20mm were feelin' it pretty hard. *shrug*.
