X2 3800 7800GTX lockups
« on: January 29, 2006, 07:09:53 AM »
I have an AMD X2 3800 and nvidia 7800GTX card  running the latest nvidia driver 81.98

I get occasional lockups. Its not windows, just the game. No overheating issues. System works fine with other sims and software.

Only lockups I have ever had have been with AH.

any ideas?

I think there has been some problems with the dual core AMDs combined with the Nvidia drivers. Check the Hardware forum for the sticky.

Second, I had nothing but problems with the 81.98 driver... low frame rates and different frames depending on where Iwas looking. Might I suggest the 81.85 driver?

I use WinXP, I have Win64 on a separate boot, but I don't log onto AH with it. Maybe 81.98 runs better on 64, I don't know...

Well,

I found out that the settingsI was using for memeory were wrong. I went to the Corsair site and found the right ones.

I can now minimize AH and then maximize it without a lockup.  Also I just installed a Soundblaster X-Fi sound card and disabled the onboard sound.
That appear to have done the trick.

We'll see. My framerates are maxing out at the monitor refresh of 85.
Lowest I have seen with this card even with the lockups was about 77.

Cobra....You may want to try setting the hardware acceleration on the sound card back to standard or one notch to the left, from full in the cards props.....
 I run a  eVGA 7800 512 here with amd fx57, soundblaster creative soundblaster  2 ZS .. on asus board 2 gigs or ram , I use the latest nvidia drivers 81.98 . no locks, .... ( in-hi-res ) .....
I hope this helps....

Thanks  for the advice,

I had already narrowed it down to the sound card.  Once I put in the CORRECT memory settings for my Corsair Twinx modules, then most problems went away. Except for the occassional lockup.

Then I put in a Sound Blaster X-fi and I only get a lcokup once in a long while. I'll try changing the sound accel settings.

Thaks alot

Hyperflyr81 gets the "most obvious" award.......(golf clap)

Seriously though,  I think it might be related to the dual core chip. I know another player who gets the exact same thing on an Athlon X2 4200.

If anyone has an idea, I'm game. I am going to try to reduce audio acceleration to Standard.

Here is the solution I have found. Shutting down 1 processor for AH does the trick. (Thanks Roy)

1. Start AH, login, go to the tower (must be in game otherwise the clipboard gets screwed up)
2. Minimize AH (alt Tab)
3. Ctl-Alt-Del ->Task Manager ->Processes
4. RIGHT click on aceshigh.exe
5. click "Select Affinity" and uncheck one processor
6. close down Task Manager (not END TASK)
7. maximize AH
