how about this?

a scenario involving mainly bombers and GVs as the focal point.  the idea would be to shut the map down, ie win the war or to prevent/delay it in a week's time or less.

it's a shame that the sherman isn't available so the allies would be using the T34 and the M8 as the tanks but that could be sorted out by concensus.

the set up is post d-day, say d-day + 30 or so and the allies are  pushing eastward towards the rhine.  we could use the Rhine map.

allied GVs

M-3
M-8
M-16
T-34

the bombers would sortie from far back, at least 4 sectors back to allow them to climb to altitude

C47
B-24s
B-17s
B-26s

The escorts would be P51B/Ds again these from 3 sectors back to fly escort

front lines would be the jaboJugs P-47-D-40s

base capture and strat damage would be activated but capture would require on the order of 50+ troops.

The axis GVs would be limited to

Osties
Panzers
Perked Tigers

no possibility of dropping supplies, no possibilty of recapturing lost territory.

axis in the air

Bf110G2
Fw190F8
FW190A8
FW190D9 rear bases
Bf109G14
Bf109K4 rear bases
Me262A1 at the HQ only.

There will be no possibility of offensive strikes.  the axis would be totally defensive.

does this sound like fun?

It looks good if it would play out that way. The only problem would be the I gotta have a furball between two bases bug that bits all of us.
Your setup is a great idea .

I can't fly everyday. Except for squad nights most of the other times I fly, I usually have less than an hour to commit to it. So I up somewhere fly to the nearest furball and get humiliated. Do you really want to take that away from me?? Better yet do you wanna take all those freebies from JG54s score page?:p

It's a good idea Storch , but a week of it would suck.

I remember a scenario Panzers v T34s.
Even with approx double the number of T34's they got slaughtered.

Add Tigers into it, I can't see many people wanting to drive a target (oops T34).

I have yet to see a T34 kill a Tiger.

In fact I have yet to see anyone claim they have killed a Tiger with a T34.

Perked Tigers

I would keep the tigers out of the setup...  unless it's available for both sides....

Its probably a good later for later, if/when more GVs added, and the current 'unpredictable' GV damage model is addressed.

I did some offline testing with panzers and tigers and t34s vs the tanks on the field, to find best hitting positions etc.

Tiger can kill anything (including a tigr) in one shot. Panzer can kill a tiger in one shot if it's in the sweet spot. More likely it takes 2-3 to pop turret or kill engine. Can kill a T34 (if the round doesn't bounce off) in 1-2 shots (going from memory here, maybe 2-3??). T34 cannot kill a tigr, period. Not from any angle. Not from any shot. I sat literally directly behind the tigr and fired EVERY armor piercing round I had, and couldn't even disable the tigr's engine. Forget about killing it. Vs panzrs it still takes several hits, and it fired 4x slower than a panzr, so forget about that.

Recent stats (this tour)

T-34 has 1552 Kills of All models
All models have 2939 Kills of T-34

Tiger I has 18024 Kills of All models
All models have 3442 Kills of Tiger I

Panzer IV H has 53701 Kills of All models
All models have 57278 Kills of Panzer IV H

If you do tanks, you have to give both sides panzers, or else it just isn't going to work.

That could get interesting, but first the allies should have to invade and the capture bases using the cv's.Then let the ground war begin.
As there  are no spawns from any bases near the invasion site, that meens a road trip to capture any other bases.

Im hoping something similar is done with this map as the war progresses. I know this map doesnt have it, but it would be nice if this one could be ammended to put GV spawns right off the beach and have a bunch of shore guns. Then like Gear said, fleets have to invade by lvt. Have bunkers at each axis  VH and capture them to successfully invade.

Rear VHs, unuseable by the axis, but protected by them, could be captured by airborne units from C47s, and LVTs,M16s and M3s could be produced there, and the field could be opened at the time of capture. At that time those "airborne" troops could setup roadblocks to the beaches preventing enemy troops from reenforcing the beach.

giving both sides the panzer negates the clear advantage the axis held in all things armored plus it would ruin the immersion factor many of us enjoy.  sorry that just wouldn't work for me.  The M-8 is only slightly worse than the sherman was and the allieds have the very best tank to serve against germany in the T-34 that should be sufficient.

Krusty,  I messed around with the tanks offline in November when i was signing back up.  I was sure I was able to kill a Tiger with a T-34, but I had to be within about 200-300 yds and hit just at that spot where the turrent joins the body.  I'll have to try it again

Don't forget there are Bombers and 51's and 47's to take care of the tigers. Hmmm, an actual role for the jabos sounds like fun!

You know I dont think the "Ive got to furball bug" has to bite us here.

If we do this as a part of the rotation, at the end actually. I do think it will just be viewed as a fun change of pace.

If the arena would be "push the front" only then ofcourse you would see the whining about lack of furball.

But for a few days having this gameplay in the rotation would be great and I think greatly enjoyed.

Tex.

No, we have the T-34/76, not the T-34/85.

If they'd added the T-34/85 then your tank setup would be viable, but not with the T-34/76.

Unless you actually beleive that no Allied tank could kill a Tiger. :rofl

I really like this idea -- give ground pounders something to be happy about.

I would suggest, however that on one or two days (say Wednesday of a Sunday - Saturday week long event) enable troops on the German side.  This would represent in abstract terms the Battle of the Bulge, and the only time the Germans could possibly make up for lost ground.

As for the question of whether a T-34 can take out a Tiger - on another thread this very question was asked, and someone answered that he was able to do it with a few shots at exactly 90 degrees.  Given the slow rate of fire of the T-34, the Tiger must have been napping.  But it is possible.

But given the fact that German supplies are disabled, even the M-8 can be effectively a Tiger killer.  I was able to "kill" a Tiger with an M-8 once - I tracked him, then ran like a sissy.  A couple minutes later an enterprising jabo finished him, but I got the kill (and something like 11 perkies!).  Point is, without the chance of resupply, an M-8 tracking a Tiger is as good as a kill as long as the Tiger isn't sitting on top of the base's maproom.

One more point - aren't the perks in the AVA arena separate from the MA perks?  I would think therefore that at least initially Tigers would be fairly rare with all the "new blood" having discovered AVA exists.  And for those who have the perks -- would they want to risk them knowing an engine hit or tracking is as good as death?

So I say, great idea, leave the Tiger in (only chance for the Germans anyway), and lets go kill stuff.:aok
