hey guys, online is one of my squaddies and he is BRAND new at the game, and I don't think he understands what the hog can do.  We all know most new guys think the hog is crap at first.

I think that's mostly because the F4U is such a HARD bird to learn on it turns the newbies off to what's probably the best of the American fighters (sorry Stang and Cat fans). I'm coming off several other sims (mostly European Air War and the Pacific Tide conversion, which is STILL one of the best WWII CFS's to come out in recent years. Microshaft can shove it up their exhaust stack) and after three months in here I'm still inconsistent.

I still want my A-Hog, with paddle prop, improved acceleration and 3500fpm ROC to 10k on WEP, but without the weight and drag-inducing rocket rails of the C/D Hogs.

this thread inspired me to fly a few sorties in the d model...nice high speed turns good flaps and can hold e well once u get a head of steam up..good for dumping e for a snapshot...landed 7 my second sorty..i liked it..i think a vet in any comparative plane that can climb well will pwn it rather quickly though e fighting

Yep, pretty much... even the 4-hog can be heftily pwnd by a 109/la7/spit16 that decides to E-fight, and it climbs reasonably well.

Nightshift82, might want to clue your new squaddie in on the cans and can nots of posting on the messageboards, and let him go read eitiquette page on netaces.org..........If he sticks around he will learn though :)

as for any vet kicking crap out of an F4U series if they in a spit16/109/La7  haven't seen but maybe 3 or 4 capable of doing this, and most of the hardest fights I have endured in the HOGs have come from some of the KOTH fliers, wetrat being one of them.........

some others include in no particular order:

Jish65, BigMax, ManeTMP/BluKitty, Yucca, Cavalear, Sirloin  &

Widewing puts up a pretty good fight as well although he doesn't fly KOTH...........

wow thats a bold statement..i think its nonsense but Id love to see you do it on a regular basis ( no sarcasm)   i think the corsair holds lots suprises at low speeds if your not expecting them...also if your gunnery is impeccable it would be even more lethal..most of the top pilots, a few of which you named, should have no prob besting the corsair...id love to go to the da with ya and find out thats for sure cuz i never really fly it and would love to see what it can do in the hands of a specialist against more "uber" rides...a few tips and id def fly it more..i just seem to best it easily  when ive fought against it..

Probably from fighting losers like me. :D

I'd say it's as much to do with who's FLYING the F4U as much as the type of opponent aircraft and who's flying IT.

I've been able to zoom climb out on most other aircraft if I have a good head of steam (350-400mph) just by benefit of how well the thing retains E, even against some of the birds that can really hang on their props at low speeds and match my initial ROC at lower airspeeds (my problem comes in trying to turn that into an attack, which is usually where I burn all my E and die against those frelling Spits).

I don't find La7s to be all THAT troublesome. My experience so far in here, supported in conversations I've had with other people, is that the Corsair WILL out-turn the La7 at most airspeeds and altitudes. She seems to bleed more E in a climb, as a couple times I've had one running out and opening on me, pulled up into the vertical, and I've matched his climb and gained ground on him. I DO still have problems at times with an La that comes in high, but I'm getting better at dodging the first pass or two until he's burned his E and I'm forcing him to turn (this may be more because of the quality of pilot I'm facing). I would like to say I'd have more La kills than my record shows, but seems a lot of times I drag 'em into a low fight and am trying to saddle up, just to have some other friendly zip in with cannon and snatch the kill.

Don't see too many 109s so I can't say much about them, and y'all know my thoughts on Spits in general already.

My argument here will probably be torn apart like a Christmas goose, but I still say the Corsair, with the right pilot, is the best of the American fighters certainly, and possibly one of the best in the set.

Which btw, if anyone is willing I'm interested in some one-on-one Hog help. Especially with those frelling Spitfires. :p

oh yes jaxxo, very bold statement, but I stand behind it, keywords you typed "i think the corsair holds lots suprises at low speeds if your not expecting them".I'll add it has some surprises at high speed as well still if the opponent is not expecting them though!!  There are more Good/Great players out there, beyond the ones I listed........could include just as many more here, but still have the opinion only 3 to 4 have the ability to take an La7/109/spit16 and best the F4U series given both flyers are long time seasoned vets that both know their planes inside/out.  We must classify what a Vet is, then what a seasoned vet is! there are alot of "Veteran players" in AH, but not all are what one would call advanced seasoned vets.......LOL, we could categorize them as seasoned vets = hasbeens and regular veteran players = neverwas's hehehe
As for doing it on a more regular basis,  that would be fun if I had the time to fly in the MA more often......We all know the more you fly the better you maintain your current feel for the game ( think of person#1 flying 40+ hours a week verses the person#2 who might get in 4 to 8 hours a week))......
Now, one could say he/she can hold their own in most fights, the thing is if the person is on their game or not.  I can log in and it seems like I can not do no wrong/then other times I can log in and be totally out of sync, to where I can do nothing right......Gunnery, hmm? my gunnery has never been top shelf......but I can get my kills ( given no enemy horde comes screaming in, or friendly horde for that matter)
I took your comment to be directed right at me, for you saying:
Quote
i think its nonsense but Id love to see you do it on a regular basis ( no sarcasm)
&  maybe even the gunnery comment.....
just wondering if so, what are you basing your facts on?

Shane should have been mentioned in the earlier posting, as for 109 pilots, I throw up NathBDP, Wilbuz, wetrat, Stang is a good one to list as well, be it 109s, or any ride.......

as for going to the DA and fighting 1 plane type verses another, is all fine and good as long as you not  going at the fight matchup in a DUEL type situation.... now if you take this match up and approach it like meeting your opponent in a 1 vs 1 in the MA, then you see it in the right perspective view....

lol, me 109 vs f4u in hte DA would be snoozalicious for the hog... dive in at merge: full throttle zoom up at 80 degrees, WEP. Proceed to E-fight hte bejeezus out of the hog :aok In hte MA i pretty much expect everyone to suck, so I'd cut throttle and try to turn with it... and probably get pinged up a wee bit by the time I figure out it's not another baby seal for me to club ;)
