Anybody catch those commercials recently for the jokes of the day text msg'd to your phone? To signup, just txt a code to whatever number it says on the screen. In the really, really small print you'll notice that by doing so you're signing up for a joke a day @ $1 per day.

Hell, you didn't even have to read the contract.  It was a free trial and it had you give your CC#.  Of course it was going to start charging you after the trial was over.  Nobody stole from you, you did it to yourself.  Been there done that with Real Media.

One thing I've always like about HTC.  They offer a two week trial without requiring a CC#...  You don't see that often with other service providers...

You always have to check every bill, every credit card statement, every phone bill, and your bank statement every time you get them.

Same goes for hotel bills, bills for tires when having them changed, etc.

I use a hotel in one city that every time I stay there they charge me a dollar a day for the safe.  I tell them each time that I didnt use the safe and take it off the bill.  They do, but they try that stunt each time.

I have had another hotel try to slip 3 phone charges into my bill for $20 each.  Got that fixed.  A hotel in Seattle tried to charge me 3 times for watching one movie.  Had to have the credit card company remove that charge from the bill when the hotel kept messing it up.

Stories go on and on about this kind of crap.  Buy tires from Sears and they will charge you all kinds of fees you didnt authorize or want.  etc etc etc.

I bought tires at Firestone last month and I had them go ahead and change the oil (sign said $21.99).  Picked up my car and looked at the bill and the oil change became $44.99.  Asked them about it and they said the oil change with the synthetic oil is $44.99.  I told them I didn't want synthetic oil.  They said they didn't know that.  I told them that's because they didn't ask.

If anyone remembers my Sears thread, it never rings more true.  A company can "steal" legally thousands of dollars from a person and it's called a "draft agreement"  My bank would not consider an $1800 accident from sears "fraud" because I had a "draft agreement" with them.  It took sears almost a month to get me my money back.

If I accidently walked out of sears store with out paying for a TV, I'd go to jail even though I have a "draft agreement" with them to allways pay for my goods.

Hopefully you have learned and don't go 3 YEARS without reviewing a CC card statement. That is just plain foolish. Maybe they are in the wrong, maybe not. But if you were half way responsible with financial accounts you could have nipped it in butt 2yrs 11 months ago.

I'll agree "TheMan" can screw you over good sometimes, but mostly when you're not paying attention and bent over.

But what'd you expect with this post Urchin?:huh
