Gforce nvidia 6,600GT
« on: February 08, 2006, 06:25:34 PM »
Sunday the 5th of Feb.  Me birthday and wakes up to the Mrs giving me a Gforce 6.600 GT 256mb vid card. hehe chuffty Rips out me old FX 5200 plugs in the new one and cheerrrunch chuggg crreerrrrkkk.  :huh  Monitor out of sink so sort that in safe mode :D  I go take out the old vid driver and put the new drivers in off the disk and fire it up this is gonna be so cool

This time I set refresh before resolution everything looking good:D  Goes to Aces High opens it up and it asks for game resolution, as it does.  1024 x 768 at 512 ...GO  cheerruug  CLINK CRASH pc restarts:eek:  So I do the same thing again with same result.

Ok! me thinks.  takes card out puts it back in maybe it wasn't fitted in slot proper. Goes Aces do the res and get the same crash.

Thinks to meself this could be a beggin e-mail to skuzzy to resolve this.  He'll ask for a DXDIAG print out.  So I go dxdiag and the freakin directX accelerator don't work Umm I know i'll put DX back in see if that helps.  Nope  Ok!  I'll take drivers out for the third time and put um in again.  Nope   Ok then 'll put latest nvidia drivers in from thier DL site.  Nope  Ok out they go and try omega drivers. Nope:furious.  I get ULI AGP drivers and put them in.  :cry   I go to mangager and check for updates on system 32 uli AGP  I roll those drivers back

WTF is going on:noid.  I go to BBs and search nvidia and here a whole thread about 64 cpu with duel cpu and geforce.  Long story short and 25 hrs later it works great:aok

How did I get it to go? I followed everything in the sticky thread and sub threads except turning off one cpu in windows.  Got the driver cleaner removed everything and put omega's in.  Aces fired up but was ultra laggy in apperence.  fps was 4 with clipboard up:huh Got rid of drivers again and got beta drivers that Kev367th posted link to.  Banged them in and when pc started it gave the usuale "found new hard ware" but funny enough it said "PCI bridge to PCI bridge" and "standard PCI bridge to PCI bridge" and "drivers" straight of it crashed agian  but came up with "PCI bridge to PCI bridge and vid drivers".  Works a treat

Really ! I have no freakin idea what particular part of my trial and error paid off.  I don't really know what i'm doing banging in ULI AGP drivers over the old ones or rolling back system 32 AGP drivers.  Just trying stuff but one thing for sure was the driver cleaner and those Beta drivers.

Thanks to all those guys in the sticky thread for thier advice :aok

p.s dxdiag checks out A O K
p.p.s Vid card average fps is 75 low point is 35 and makes joystick feel very positive

get detdestroyer to remove your previous nvidia drivers, then re-install the latest nvidia drivers.  If possible, get the latest directx and reinstall that too.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
