Abit AN8 + Gigabyte 6800GT problems
« on: February 08, 2006, 07:10:31 PM »
Just curious if anyone else has had the same issues I am seeing with the subject MB and video card....

Currently, I can only get the MB+Video combination to work on a HP Mx50 (14") monitor.  Plugging in a larger KDS monitor leads to an 04 post code, which is a memory error code, on the motherboard.  This is my only PCI-E motherboard and video card so I haven't been able to swap components for troubleshooting.

The video card could be bad, but it works very well on the smaller monitor.    Abit has always been good to me until now for building gaming machines.  This is my first Gigabyte video card.  I have read on the Abit boards that there are 'issues' between the 6800GT and the AN8 boards.

Generally a card either works, or it doesn't.  The same can be said for a MB.   I am in the process of contacting the video card manufacturer, but switching to an ASUS board seems like a good idea about now.  This is just too bizarre and I wanted to share this experience and see if anyone has seen something similar.

Regards,

Malta

That is a weird one , do both monitors use the same connector, or do you have to use a dvi adaptor for one or the other ? Have you tried unistalling the video drivers using the good monitor , shutting the pc off then install the kds and see if it will boot . That should rule out a driver issue . With the kds installed , will it let you into the bios, but just not boot windows ? GL 38

yeah the stinking new Abit boards work best with the ATI cards. Idont doubt your having problems with it. To me it does sound like a conflict with the monitor. Does the larger monitor work fine on another system? You didnt say if you had tried it on another computer to see. I have an AG8 3rd eye board and it hates nVidia cards too.

Is the large monitor a plug-n-play monitor?  Try booting to safe mode (pressing F8 just prior to Windows boot screen) and see if it works.  If not, then something is wierd, as safe mode uses the standard SVGA drivers instead of the native video card drivers.

I did not really figure out what was going on with the monitor, but I hooked up a new LCD monitor and it works great!  Strange stuff going on there!  Anyway, I am back in business.

Thanks,
