Would'n it be neat?

Would'n it be neat?   ..... If someone invented some sort of a device for cars that people could use to let others know when they are going to turn or change lanes?  They could probably use some sort of a flashing light maybe?  Bright yellow or red.  Gosh I'll bet they could even figure out how to make it so the driver could activate it with a simple switch or lever.

If it took effort to use... say, a hand to move a lever....

How could it be done?  you couldn't let go of the cell phone or steering wheel?   Well... maybe the wheel for a short period..

Plus..  you wouldn't know if they were working or not.  If you used them then they would wear out so you would have to use them very sparingly.

Your right Laz, I forgot about the cell phone,  well that would just make it hard to use something like that.     Also I'm sure it would have to use some type of light bulb, and we all know how they can burn out so easy and have to be replaced.
Well gosh,  this idea has all kinds of inconveniences.
It would probably never happen anyway,  Big Oil companies or the Bush administration would find someway to bury this kind of technical advance.

You want them to take the headphones to the Mp3 player off,  turn off the cellphone, and put down the DVD's and the multi-disk CD changer...geush, just to alert you that they are turning,,My Gawd, man are you insane?

We could start a "How to drive with your knees" school. That might help.

Well, if I'm in arm hanging out window mode, I'd havta let go of the steering wheel to actuate the turn signal.  That would be a safety no-no.

No...I just use the old fashioned arm signals in that case.  Arm pointing left for a left turn, arm down for stop and arm right angle up for right turn.  They are still legal aren't they?  But my arm hanging ride is an old beater and already dented up, so guess it doesn't matter that much.  The turn signals do work though for when the windows are rolled up.:D

Why do we need a signal? The abrupt stopping, and/or lane changing, should be indication enough. It's your fault for being next to them if they hit you when they decide to change lanes, all lateral movements in vehicles are followed by checking for vehicles in the parallel lanes NOT preceeded.

But why would they want to bother with signal lights anyway? They could just remove them and use the space for more brake lights...

...or chrome, if you like da bling.

i'd rather see some type of message system where you could send some type of message to the idiot in front of you, like GET OUT OF THE LEFT LANE YOU IMBICLE OR AT LEASE PASS THE ******* SEMI SO I CAN PASS YOU IN THE CENTER LANE YOU ******* RETARD or something polite like that. if i could speak that into their car speakers the world would be a much better place.

My favorite is the 4 lane highway (2 lanes per direction) with a semi going 65.0 mph passing a semi going 64.9 mph.

there just needs to be some dead pan in the steering wheel with the delay activating the turn signals so you know which way he/she is going before they actually start to drift in that direction ... where's the patent office number? :)

all though that can be irritating the best one for me is the two lane road, 1 lane each direction.
Following several cars, get to a deceit passing lane, pull out, accelerate, hurry up passing cars when all of a sudden some jerk in the middle of the pack decides he wants to pass also but doesnt accelerate, just pulls out in front of you, and your running out of safe passing room.

I want a gun that fires a flag that says "Stupid” fire it at the offending vehicle, attaches a small red flag "Stupid" to the car.  Any car with 2 or 3 flags attached to it, the cops pull them over and give them a ticket for being an Idiot.

It doesn't even have to be that technical. I had something one time that I tried with my old 1986 Prelude. I took two cordless phones and removed the rubber antennas. They were stiff rubber and could flex with a bit of effort. I then took a thick piece or cardboard and cut out a one inch square. On this, I attached the two antennas about half an inch apart. I then measured the distance between the back of the steering wheel and the signal stalk. Once I had a measurement, I cut the antenna to where the tips extended just barely past the stalk. I then glued the cardboard to the back of the steering wheel with the base of the stalk in between the two antennas.

When I would turn slightly, the antenna would push up or down on the stalk in the direction I was turning. When I returned to center, it would release it. If I had to turn sharply, the antenna would press the stalk all the way down the flex out of the way. The device would then turn it off when I returned it to center.

Worked pretty well, as long as the adhesive held out. Used it for a few hundred miles before the cheap glue I used fell away.
