After watching Serenity, I downloaded the Firefly series. I've finished the first ten or eleven episodes and I'm sorry to report that I can see why the show didn't make it.

Up until the sixth or seventh episode, it just didn't grab. I'm not sure why... maybe it's the mix between western and science fiction or the mix of comedy and drama.

The movie was more focused. The western feel was left out and the comedy was trimmed down. The movie seems more serious than the series.

That said, the last few episodes have been thoroughly enjoyable and it seemed that Whedon had finally found his story arc. I expect that if there had been a second season, it would have been even better than the first.

We can hope.

It too late for you....but be sure to watch the TV serries in the order intended to air, not the out of order screwjob it was aired in.  Made no scence if you watch them in the wrong order.

Blasphemer!

(Ok I'll admit that the pilot is one of my least favorite episodes to go back and watch - it piqued my curiosity about the show, but didn't hook me.  Even the much-maligned "Train Job" episode, despite its shortcomings, is one of my favorite early episodes as it's just good old-fashioned fun.)

So far... I liked Trash and War Stories best.

Oh... and I watched the movie again tonight after watching most of the series. Definitely a different emotional investment once you get to know Wash and Book. It's a shame they won't be around if there's a follow up.

That would be chronological order, something Fox network knows nothing of.

The very first episode they showed us was episode number 2.  They mixed around some of the episodes and finally put on TV the Pilot 4 weeks after the very last episode.
Punishr - N.D.M. Back in the air.
8.) Lasersailor 73 "Will lead the impending revolution from his keyboard"

FOX definitely screwed the pooch on the order of airing. I have to admit the movie is more focused and intense than the series, but they didn't have the luxury of drawing out the storyline like they can do in a series.

I'm afraid the series is dead, done, toast, history. IF there is another movie, I expect it to be in a pre-quil fashion.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

In addition to it being out of sequence, you'll notice there were voids where it wasn't aired. Fox was repeatedly making last minute substitutions over it. We had DirectTV at the time and the menu would say firefox was going to be on, but something entirely different would be airing.

I don't know that it would have made it (on fox) even if it had been aired in the proper order, but that has more to do with fox being complete idiots than anything else. As it was executed, however, it did not stand a chance. It wasn't always on at the same time if at all and it was completely out of sequence.

Interestingly enough... according to Whedon, the network was changing the sequence in an attempt to make the show more appealing to men.
