Found this old picture online...
Has anyone made a shark-toothed spit?

457 RAAF Squadron  "Gray Nurse" flying Spit VIIIs in the Pacific.  Thinking someone will get it done.  Lots of images out there of that bunch.

Hey, just so you know, im trying to make a skin using the same pictures you provided. I'm having a bit of trouble being a first-timer. But we always get better as we progress. I'm not too bad at picture cutting, so i'm gonna work on it for a while and see what I turn up.:aok

Uhm, unless you have some pictures of practically "step-by-step" models. I don't think I would be able to do it. The AHII build configuration right now for skins means I have to put the plane's skin together in pieces. Almost like a 2-D object being placed together with more 2-D objects to make the single 3-D object which is the finish of the plane's skin. Now, i'm good at picture cutting, but not good enough to cut the wings out, tail section, and hunks of more things I can't use on the build process.

 Might wanna talk to Raptor01:aok

You're going about it all wrong bogie!

Use the images for a reference, and use paint brushes and paint buckets and such to make the skin. Use the default as a template and use layers on top of that default so you know where things should go.

That's what I was going to do! Until I saw all the excess objects that are NOT attached to the main skin.

It's all done in seperate 2-D shapes

#1: left side body.
#2: right side body.
#3: Top Right Wing.
#4: Top Left Wing.
#5: Right Elevator.
#6: Left Elevator.
#7: Bottom Body.
#8: Bottom right wing.
#9: Bottom left wing.
#10: Coolant Shaft.

 And on... And on...

Theres at least 25 or more seperate 2-D objects that you can configure. That's why its so tough to do a simple copy-paste style job.

Although I did manage to "cut-out" the sharks teeth and paste them on the left and right side of the body. It's extremely hard to see in the game. But if you want to try it out, here is the skins package:
http://603rdraf.tripod.com/spit8.html

Installation:
#1. Download the File to your desktop
#2. Go to this location in your AHII directory: Skins (Usually located in: C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II\skins )
#3. Add a new folder and name it: Spit81
#4. Open up the download using WinZip.
#5. Extract all files to the new directory you just created (spit81)
#6. Open up AHII, go into Offline mode. Select Spit VIII, then in the skins option up above, select: Shark-Nosed Spit

There is no such thing as a 3d object. The objects are all made of thousands (maybe just hundreds) of polygons. There's no way any single image would ever "wrap" around this properly. It has been common practice for a while to break the sections up into logical divisions, then map each one individually.

It may LOOK like there's a lot, but it's much easier than you think. Have faith!

Just work on the fuselage and wings for now. You don't have to do the wheels, wheel wells, and all that stuff. Well, not on any recent skins, you don't. Just leave those areas blank, and leave the default skin underneath them. When you flatten the image and save it, the default areas will still show up.

I wasnt talking about editing the other images. The difficulty comes in when I am attempting to take the picture of the "shark-teeth" and attempt to place them onto the sides of the fuselage, and the bottom of the fuselage. The sides are fine, the bottom is the tricky part.

I messed around with it some more. I got some things fixed so now its easier to see it. But i'm not satisfied, you have to be zoomed in on the fuselage so close, your almost in the cockpit (looking at it from the nose) before you see it! It's almost as if its a low-def picture.

Also, I am using "Paint". I don't exactly know how to use Adobe... etc

Ahhh... MS Paint is not a good thing to skin with. You need layers. Several applications have them. I think PSP (Paintshop Pro) has a free version available, if you want to install it.
