Bomb question....
« on: February 14, 2006, 05:47:41 PM »
I asked this in the MA today, but nobody seemed to know the answer, so I'll try here.

If you are flying underneath bombers in another plane, and they drop their bombs, will they damage or kill you if they hit you?

Brings to mind the WWII film footage where the upper bomber's bombs take the tail off a lower B-17 - not by exploding, just falling thru it and cutting it off.

Anyway, would the same thing happen in AH?  I was flying uunder some B-17's as they were approaching our base today, and this question popped into my head 'cuz it was about time for the bomber to release his bombs.

Well Im curious, now that you mention that.

If its a friendly, would it be killshooter?  Etc...etc.

Id like to know the same.

Was thinking about flying under the buffs of the fun police to keep them from killing a good fight.  If killshooter is involved and their buffs would be killed if their bombs hit me, oh what fun and laughs I will have flying under buffs. :t

i've always wondered about this too. back when i was a young noob, flying buffs all the time, i used to bomb the HQ a lot, and one time there was a 109 trying to get me, just as i was dropping, it looked as though the bombs were going to hit him, i dont know whether he missed them, or whether they went through him. i still dont know the answer, dunno whether its possible or not.

however i have killed many people using rockets, and have been killed TWICE by GTR in the 8" guns, which miraculously hit me, while i was in the air! it happened TWICE on seperate occasions!!!!! nearly pissed myself laughing both times lol

but yeah, i would be interested to see the answer to this. i think i've dropped bombs on friendly bombers before by mistake, but they did no damage, probably because of friendly collisions

In another sim that HTC wrote / made I was underneath a B25 when it dropped.  I was trying to get a belly shot into the bomb bay.   I was fasinated as 1 bomb actually hit me and blew me up.  Funny thing was it didn't look like a bomb.   It was way bigger than my cockpit and looked like a dirty black fifty gallon oil drum.

As for AH2 I have no idea.  Maybe it's the blast radius that kills us on the ground in here and not the actual bomb, if you get what I mean.  My reason for thinking blast radius is I shelled a bomber hanger once from the 8 inch.  I was in max zoom and as it blew up a con flew about 15 ft above.  It killed him and I scored the kill.

I think this happened to me during a massive B26 raid during dweeb week on Mindinoa. Was meed bomber stream adn when we started to drop, a bunch of us wound up back in the tower. I guessed it was from forward bombers bombs.

I dropped a 250kg bomb to kill DAR at a field and I also killed Spit that had just lifted and was flying close to the radar tower. So it is possible to kill an airborne plane with a bomb but as LYNX said it was caused by the bomb blast radius.
I don't know if you can actually hit and kill a flying plane with a bomb.

You cant KS yourself with bombs on a friendly.

The answer to the other question of enemy being hit by an airborn bomb is pretty easlily answered. Just take someone to the DA and launch from the high base. One in fighter the other in bomber. Have the fighter fly under the bomber then drop bombs with the fighter right under the bomb bay. And you'll have your answer.

Before the KS effect was removed, I'm pretty sure you could KS yourself with a direct hit on a friendly. It's not possible now, however, as dorkeus pointed out.

I believe bombs are capable of killing an enemy with a direct hit in the air, just as rockets are. I know if I'm on the ground, I can tell the difference between a near miss and a direct hit; most of my sounds are custom, and there is a hit sound that seems to be limited to a direct strike. I think I've even been hit in the air with bombs, but it's one of those things that happens in a split-second, and leaves you wondering if what you saw really happened, or if you missed something else.

I too was lucky once and droped a bomb on a fighter that happened to be under my bomb bay...killed him instantly. we were around 15K or so..and he was like 2K under me. Cant remember who it was now. We got a chuckle out of it.

Did it just blow the other plane up or do some visual/structual damage? If the plane didnt just explode when being hit by the bomb, it would make for a real nice scene for some movie.
