My sister wanted to upgrade her PC's ram, so I opened up the case and pulled a stick of ram. Looking at it, it looked like RDRAM, I wasn't sure but I noticed the slots in the other unused channels. So I did a quick search online and compared it -- it was RDRAM.
Kind of hard to upgrade RDRAM. It's so old it's expensive. 512 of RDRAM is around $90 (and don't forget you need 2!), 256 ranges from $45 to $80 depending on the brand. So basically you're paying alot for a minor ram boost.
I checked her mobo, it's a P4T by Asus. Looked up the specs, and it's a socket 423. Apparently these were a blip on the radar before being replaced by the socket 478 system.
Questions: Is there any CHEAP source of RDRAM out there? Even though my sis only has a 1.5GHz P4 she's not all that keen on upgrading the full system.
Are there any OTHER socket 423 boards out there? I could just swap the mobo and dump DDR into it (that is, if there are any socket 423's with DDR slots)?
