question for HTC
« on: February 15, 2006, 09:37:34 PM »
My apologies if this question's been answered before. I've seen it said that HTC policy is against this, but I can't find anything in a forum search about it from HTC.

I constantly see people here complaining about what others enter into the text buffer, and moderation of that is constantly discussed. Given that, I fail to understand why it wouldn't be desirable for players to have the ability to have a persistent squelch list.

What's up there? What's the downside?

I thought the perma squelch would be a waste of coad, what with so many other things to work on. Now, I think I'd rather see that added than new planes.  I'm trying to search and find the old permasquelch thread, but I can't find it.

It'd be interesting to hear his views on it now, especially with the other discussion going. I'm not coming up with a lot of cons atm. I know there's a few folks I'd love to never see or hear a single word from again though.

I've wanted it from day one. HTC don't like the idea.

PS... I don't know alot about coading but it would be a simple .txt file just like any other settings/config file ie: joystick, views, etc... Shouldn't be too difficult.

You know, if it were limited to 3 names, like on the ignore list for BBS, I just dont see why its a problem.

I've noticed that some guys go thru phases, and later seem to stabilize (med adjustments?   :lol) -- maybe the permasquelch could last only a month, reset each tour.

I'd even pay perks to permasuelch a couple guys.

Honestly there are some hwo have ABSOLUTELY nothing redeeming to say, and whose manner poisons the whole arena. I dont start a session with squelch commands, and I find myself getting irritateed when one of the offenders starts up. I have to restrain my impulses to respond, and I dont always do the wise thing and squelch before I've commented, maybe adding to the problem. Permasquelch could cut down on reveryone's retaliatory urges and localoize the contagion to the troublemaker's pc's...

why not just add a 'right click, squelch' option to the roster?

you could even have a 'favorites' list for squelch :)

but honestly, why can't you guys just ignore people?

Rather than a perma squelch list I would like a perma "bad word list"

A list of words that are filtered out of the radio bar that we can add to as we wish..........

A bit like parental control code................

Then it does not matter who said it and which channel was used  we dont have to see it.

and it would sit on the FE.

Just dont store them as txt files as they would make strange reading:huh

Kind of like a MadLibs for Tourette's sufferers. :huh

Still interested in HT's views on the matter. The idea of a text file we could edit (similar to the ignore feature we have on the bbs) seems like a good one.

"honestly, why can't you guys just ignore people?"

Well. The game is about people playing with (and against) other people.  Due to the shear numbers online there's bound to be a sizable cadre of anti-social, retarded types in the mix.
Too often thier whiney, idiotic, sniveling, diahreal rants push the radio text of normal, decent, adjusted and socialable players rapidly off the radio buffer.
And it's usually the same morons who repeatedly need to be squelched and ignored.  So to to add insult to injury not only do normal people have to endure this never ending jeuvinile crap they are forced to perform the chore of squelching others every time they log on.
And that's just the country channel. At least 200 has to be selected deliberately. Range vox is the worst.
The problem and the pLaYsKoOl atmosphere cheapens the game environment and many players often say to themselves "fediddle this baloney" and log off - some just unsub from the game altogether.

 So honestly?

Why can't some people just control themselves?
