TrackIR for Lock-on and Falcon4 AF
« on: February 16, 2006, 12:41:16 PM »
I just ordered trackIR. I've been playing these two jet sims constantly the past month. I loved lockon back in the day when it first came out, just picked up a copy of Falc4 and the new Lockon FC and can't put them down.

Do any of you who play lockon or falcon4 (i think there's a couple of you) use trackIR? I cant stand the horrible view system for lockon, falcon 4 is no better really. How hard is trackIR to hook up and program with either of these two sims? I know absolutely nothing about trackIR but I've seen films made with it and it looks unbelievable. Tracking tiny dots with no icons is next to imposible with the standard view system in either of these two sims. And playing with icons on is way too easy and takes the fun out of BVR with red dots all over the sky.  I hope trackIR will make a difference in that respect.

lol you dont like it or what?

I've heard alot of good things about it.

I'll hijack my own thread and post the link to a film I just finished for lockon.

The high quality link isn't working yet, Im uploading the film now. Should work in an hour or so. The low res is up. Its my first lockon film so go easy on the bashing. :)

Neither F4 or F4:AF support more than yaw & pitch movement. It kinda sucks. However, it still is better than the normal view system. I love the game, but hate the view system. However, to make up for this chronic flaw, you can force multi-monitor support on it using ATI cards & Hydravision. There's threads over at Frugal's & Viperpit.org that cover how to do it. I can't wait to have working MFD's... that's gonna be spiffy. To your original question, it wasn't hard to setup at all, since there's only 2dof. I don't use mine much really, only click it on when I start to decelerate & crank after an aim120 release, or when I notch & sprint away.

LoMac is the same as F4, kinda neutered. In FC you get 1 extra dof, Z axis iirc. LoMac: Black Shark, whenever it comes out, will bring in true 6dof trackIR usage and will hopefully feel very similar to AH. Gotta wait a bit for that one though :(

Was that directed at me?

If so, no...I didn't like it.

I move around alot while flying...never realised how much until I tried the Track IR.  It made flying with it really tough.

I also did feel a bit sick at times too...motion sickness.

Check the Falcon 4 Allied Force section of the SimHq.com forums.  Lots of posts and such about using TrackIR

Recall Falcon is a massive re-do/code cleanup of the original game.  Its vastly more stable now.  Its also built around DirectX 7.  Now if these guys re-do the graphics engine...or the whole game...around the newer versions....oh my, we should have a really sharp looking game.  That would mean the stunning LoMac style graphics with the very in depth avionics, etc.

Nice vid Morph! You in a Lock-On Squad? I'm in the 169th Panthers squad, exclusive beta test squad for Lock-On, care to join us?

Did you actually fly any of the planes in that vid or just just set up a mission and film it?

Thanks g00b. The hires version of the film shoudl be up. Its a big boy though... Anyone download that? Just curious as to the download time from my server.

Yeah I flew the lead F-14. It was 004. And I took the SU's off.  kept the pheonix missils shooting to a minimum as the SU's wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell in even seeing the tomcats. :D

I would love to fly with you guys if you have room. Are you testing black shark? I am dying to see what that is like. PM me through my site if you want, or here is fine too. Let me know.

Thanks again

Only took a couple of minutes Morph.

Been thinking about Lock On FC. Think Il;l get it. With the system I have...should be very nice.

Edit...

TrackIr works fine for me. I have only used it in AH. Hard to get used to...but fun and a new thing to the game for realism so to speak.  Good Luck with it.
