Dept of State Security gets to google US
« on: February 20, 2006, 05:07:01 PM »
The SS apparently got to google in the US...  Hooray, now we're like China!

Try to view the vids linked here.  They're all work and skuzzy safe (I've seen a couple elsewhere), but they've been blocked in the US by google.

Detonation of Improvised Explosive Device used against Coalition forces. We found this one before they could use it against us. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2053731645001034711

Night Explosion - This is a weapons cache found in Iraq, we detonated it with a few satchels of C4. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4258374615945369026

World War I Documentary - The WWI Movie made for Socials 11 project. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4733475773762050424

The Bealfast Breaking News from GNN News Group - "The Strikeball News Infromation Game Status" http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-9111921414589316707
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

aren't these considered "news"?  you can't censor the news in the US.  It's not even illegal to print national secrets in the US (see NYT)

This is wrong on so many levels.

I am able to watch them here.

Why would they be blocked for you? The first two are only detonation of IED's.

I dunno why they're blocked here, but clicking on the link results in an error page "this site can not be viewed in your country."  I do know that US Congress recently started investigating internet censorship and how various internet companies have been participating with other country's law enforcement and censorship activities.  Maybe google is trying to make a point, or maybe the dept of State Security (seig heil!) thought that google china was doing such a great job, they should start doing that sort of thing here.

I wonder why this hasn't hit slashdot or CNN...

They are free to censor where they will.

Sure, but I'd like an explanation so that I can decide if they're evil on my own.

Don't worry, Ripsnort will be along any minute now to tell us there's nothing to worry about.

Move along, folks!  Nothing to see here.

I may have forgotten to mention that I'm in Florida right now, and I don't know if it's blocked in the UK :)
