My rank had been in the top 100 for the past 7 or 8 tours FYI . then it went up to 800 b/c i had my account locked for few weeks. then it went under 100 again.

if you think rank means anything, then you aren't as good a pilot as you think. there are guys out there like Shawk that have great scores, but they dont think that score makes them a good pilot, they just fly, and try not to die.

I know rank means NOTHING at all. There are people like furball whos rank is 1000+ and he kills everyone he sees. I get shot down alot. I was showing him before he goes off on my that i have been in the top 100.:rolleyes:

but being ranked in the top 100  doesnt mean you are in the top 100, it just means you play more than other guys

Too broad a brush ... not completely true.

Some that are in the top 100 (fighters) are really that good ... I would think the same would be true for "overall" score ... its not just hours you play the game that get you into the ranks.

I was not talking about the top 100 on the score page, I was talking about the top 100 in pure killing ability. Most of the top 100 on the score page are timid and relatively low in ability to kill, but they stay alive and work the scoring system. I dont ever recall fighting you so I cant say if you are in the top 100 or not, but I know for sure you are not in the top 5 (nor am I for that matter, I'm not even top 5 in my squad) in fighters as Thunder listed.

yeah, see what i wrote about SHawk. he doesnt fly for rank, he just flies not to get killed. simply because he has a high rank does not mean that he considers himself to be good. that was my example to viper...


that if you think you are in the top 100 because of your rank, you might well not be skill wise.


i mean, i think my fighter rank right now is 101 or something. i've flown under 50 sorties, and maybe a little over 100 kills, but it still says im near the top 100. it kinda suprised me when i saw it lol. i havent really flown much this tour at all lol. what i mean is, pilot skill is not directly tied to rank, because my actual stats for this tour suck, but im still ranked 101st

Something to note about the high rank issue. Rank is a relative thing, it's a competitive system. If absolutely everyone played for high rank and did so to the maximum of their abilities then yes, rank would be some indication of skill (although could still be manipulated to give 'false impressions' of skill). But, there are many, like myself, who have and could get a good rank at will, that do not. There are people that play for rank currently that may rank in the top 100, but if everyone played for rank they would perhaps only rank in the top 500. You see the point? A ranking system is like a representative democracy, it's only 'representative' for those that choose to participate. To be a pure or absolute democracy would require everyone vote, or in the case of the AH ranking system, everyone play for rank to the full potential of their abilities...

that is what i was saying...

that rank is no indication of player skill, as the really good guys dont want to have anything to do with rank. i dont either, but i seem to get a high rank anyway lol, so that is kinda a big downfall in my argument:lol

Getting a good rank by 'accident' is a seperate and distinct animal from deliberately striving for the best rank possible given your skill-set. But, unless you are actually striving for your best possible rank, the rank you achieve by accident still doesn't make it representative of your skill relative to those that do strive for the best possible rank...
