It's a dog.

Dogs are domesticated animals. They are not humans.

Animals are not volunteers. They are domesticated. No one asked them permission because strangely enough, they don't speak human.

Duh.

Ummm...because it's a dog.  Stiffer punishment than killing a regular dog, sure.  Murder charges of the same stiffness as for killing a human?  Of course not.

read up on a RCMP officer named Sam Steele.  his story goes a long way fleshing out the concept of a "neck of brass"  the RCMP is an exemplary law enforcement unit with a long history of distinguished service dudley do right is really the LAPD or Miami's finest.

In recognition of the valuable role these animals play in police duties and the dangers they face, there have been a number of measures to ensure their protection. These include outfitting dogs with bulletproof vests to protect them from guns and some areas have passed laws that make attacking a police dog a felony.

it's from Wikipedia so take it as you may.

From a monitary stand point police dogs arent cheap.  Just like the officers they work with they are expensive to train.

What's any of that have to do with what I wrote in my post?

Unless you are trying to tell me the guy who killed the dog was charged and convicted of capital murder for killing the police dog and then sentenced to a firing squad. Is that what you are saying?

If the police killed the man in revenge for killing the dog then they are the murderers and should have been charged as such.

I'm truly sorry for the loss.  Those are devoted, loyal animals doing a job they did not ask for.  The people who choose to work with them (and I know three) are also particularly devoted to the animals, and are emotionally very bound-up in them.  (as they should be, IMO).

It's my understanding the the RCMP is a well-respected and capable organization.  If I were in trouble in the Great White North, I'd be glad to see 'em coming.

Finally...justice would not come from one of us getting 10 minutes alone with Dirk Sinkorswim.  Ten minutes alone with an angry horse in a tight stall would do the trick nicely, though, dontcha' think?  My money's on the 1000 lb horse...

PS...'Dirk'.  You gotta be kidding me...

It has everything to do with your post.
The officers responded in the same manner as if a human officer had been shot.
Now that should tell you what level of protection from the law police service dogs have same as human.

My post deals with law and the claims of the 'engineer':

Trying to kill a k9 unit is just the same as attempted murder.

It has nothing to do with some 20 year old urdan legend about 'cops' taking revenge on a dog killer by killing the dog killer in return.
