A windows XP software question
« on: February 26, 2006, 09:17:40 AM »
I built my first system a cupple years ago and shelled out 199.00 bucks for Windows XP fresh install.  I know I am going to have to buy another copy of XP, I was just wondering if they sold a 'I already got the booklets and whatnot' copy for a reduced price?

The OEM version of XP can often be purchased with certain hardware components bundled up. For example if you buy a stick of ram or a CPU you most likely can buy a OEM version of XP.

One option would be to transfer your old XP license from your old computer if you plan to dismiss the old one.

Ya, I found one via nextag for 79.99.  Thats reasonable.  Beats the hell outta 199.99.

One vendor I dealt with automatically added a free piece of wire (CDROM audio cable) to any order for WinXP OEM to satisfy the "hardware" requirement ;)  Note that if you buy OEM you can't get help from Microsoft- you have to contact the system manufacturer.. i.e. you.

Question ............

Why do you have to buy a new copy of XP?  Are you giving the old computer to someone else or some other reason that you cant transfer your copy to the new computer?
