41-37320/37469 North American P-51 Mustang c/n 91-11981/12130.  For RAF as Mustang Mk IA under Lend-Lease as FD418/FD567. Many were repossessed by USAAF before delivery to RAF.
41-37320 delivered to USAAF as P-51-1

What is a P-51-1?

I asked on http://www.warbird-central.com/forum/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=45&posts=1#M74

This was a Mustang Mk.Ia diverted to the AAF. Some Mk.1a types were eventually converted to tactical reconnaissance or F-6As.

Some were accepted by the AAF as P-51s, others as P-51-1 and two as P-51-2. Two were later converted to XP-51Bs/XP-78 (S/Ns 41-37350 and 41-37421).

My regards,

Milo,

I can't believe you were asking almost the same question, I guess great minds do think alike:D Yikes!!!

Anyway I thought the -2 was either a test bed for the P-51B or an F-6. Looks like it could have been both.

I am amazed at the performance of the early P-51's when tested at high MAP.
