AH European Con Anyone?
« on: February 27, 2006, 09:43:09 AM »
I think that you guys should look at setting one up.
There's probably a few expats like myself that would come over and join in the fun.
As for location, well no disrespect to our European friends, but it should be in the UK. After all the UK has the main requirements to hold such a convention.
1. World class Pubs
2. World class Beer
3. World class Bacon sandwiches
4. World class Curry Houses
5. World class Bookies
As you can see from the above, there would be no need for an internet connection, hats or Tshirts.
What we could do is find someone who has space on their floor for all of us and is in walking distance to all the above.
Oh! and if someone is within walking distance of  a decent football team then that would be even better.
Any takers ?

I have even managed to open my wallet in anticipation of the aforesaid event. I shall order the bacon sarnies forthwith...   :aok
Here we are, living on top of a molten ball of rock, spinning around at a 1,000mph, orbiting a nuclear fireball and whizzing through space at half-a-million miles per hour. Most of us believe in super-beings which for some reason need to be praised for setting this up. This, apparently, is normal.

I think this one can be a good starting point:

AH Finnish convention

I'm planning to join them, don't know if I'll be able to do it, but I'm sure it will be a lot of fun! :)

Depending on the time/date of arrival, you could consider the destination between Helsinki and Tampere.

Helsinki is only about 2 hour's drive from Tampere and there are some people coming from Helsinki anyways... myself included ;)

Gianlupo, throw me a private message about your plans and lets see if I can be of any help.

Gianlupo,

I dunno if you have this information allready, but here are a couple of options for you if you're coming:

http://www.blue1.fi/
Rome to Helsinki on thursdays at 23:00 and back on sundays. Rome to Helsinki currently 84€ on 6.5.2006. Return might not work as it's on sunday at 9:00...

http://www.airberlin.com
Flies to Rome.

http://www.sterlingticket.com/en/forside_en
Flies to Rome and Bologna.

http://www.ryanair.com/
Flies from Tampere to Frankfurt and London(so you would need to book to separate flights with enough time to change).

I'll check the options further....

Keep in my that you have to book as fast as you can to get them at a decent price!!!

One option with Sterling:

Adult Web      63,00 EUR*

Tue, 04 Apr 06
  Flight NB 878
10:05       Depart      Bologna (BLQ)
14:05      Arrive      Helsinki (HEL)

Adult Web      83,00 EUR*

Tue, 11 Apr 06
  Flight NB 877
07:15       Depart      Helsinki (HEL)
09:15      Arrive      Bologna (BLQ)

I found these prices with "FairFinder":
http://www.sterlingticket.com/en/billigsterejser

For all bookings:

http://www.sterlingticket.com/en/reservation_en/find_en_rejse_en.htm

So these were the lowest fares with Sterling for a weeks stay at the time of the con. If you don't want/or have the possibility to stay longer, then it'll be more expensive to get flights just for the weekend.

If you want to stay longer than just for the weekend, you can allways stay with me near Helsinki, and I'm sure others would be happy to accomodate you too.

And the Ryanair option... You would have to book two separate flights, for example Pisa-Frankfurt-Tampere, or Pisa-London-Tampere. If your first flight would be late you might be stuck at London or Frankfurt without refunds. On the way back you would have to stay at London or Frankfurt for the night. So I don't think Ryanair is a viable option for return flights.

Anyway If you want to come don't think too long, but just go ahead and book the flights with Sterling or/and Blue1, or even Ryanair!!

Don't mind about the arrengements at this end, we can work them out later. It would be preferable that you'd be here by 17:00 on friday though.

I'm driving to the con from Helsinki, so you can get a ride there with me. I can also pick you up from the airport, no matter what time you are arriving, and provide accomodation if needed.

Eheheheheheh, thank you guys. :)

Matter is, I can stay (if I can come) for the weekend only, so I have to exclude many solutions. Best thing would have been Ryan air Pisa-Frankfurt-Tampere, the only little problem is that the flight from Pisa is scheduled to arrive half an hour later than the flight to Tampere has left.... I thought "I can go to Frankfurt with the Lufthansa".... the only tiny problem is that Lufthansa go to Frankfurt, not Frankfurt Hahn, where Ryan air is based! :p
I think I'll have to leave from Rome....

Thank you all, anyway!
