You will first need to go to one of the approved schools for the ATC program. Then you need to get into the FAA's academy.
There are 13 and these include Beaver County Community College in Beaver Falls, PA. and Riddle.
Medical standards are much higher than for pilots. Close tabs on BP and what not. Pilots can actually be on BP medications and show "no adverse effects" as attested by their physician and still fly. Controllers as I understand cannot.
If you're looking into school (and you need to) I'd visit Beaver. I have been up there twice and it seems like a good program and they've got their students working in the tower right there under the supervision of the already highly experienced controllers employed. I'm told by my contract tower controller buddies (they're definately in the know) that you can go as high as $150,000 at various ARTCCs for you average pay which will base your retirement pension off of.
