What's a good one to get now? I dont really have a spending limit set yet. Im still in the learning/shopping stages. I want to get a fairly decent one, not outrageously priced but it should be good quality too. Size is important... Small is good.

I've always had digital cameras. Never had a video camera, but always wanted to pick one up. Thought I'd ask..

Hiya Morph, it's your Brit superhero here! :p

My camera is a Casio Exilim - a pocket job, with a 1GB memory chip that SOB helped me find at a good price. With this memory card I can shoot about 53 minutes of video with sound. Not sure what sort of quality you're after. The quality from the Exilim is OK, but I'm sure you could get better if willing to pay for it, and/or have a larger camera.

I don't have a video camera, but if I were to buy one now I'd strongly consider Sanyo Xacti HD1, it should hit the shops later this month. 720p video recording to SD card, no tapes to worry about and quite cheap ($799 or so).

Quality, Im used to taking short clips 1-4 minutes long with my digital camera. So anything would be better than what I am using now. I just find that at times, I need one and dont have it. Air shows, parties, races, girls , ect..

Are the ones with chips better than ones with CDs? I would get the ones with the mini-CD's but I dont think I'd like the ones with the big bulky standard CD's. (if any camera even uses them)

Do you have a short clip beetle,  that I could see of what it looks like? If you want, you can put it on my server. Alot of what I take will be for on line use for films that I will be doing.

Yes, I'll dig one out. Is your AH BBS profile set for you to receive private messages? I'll upload the film to my site and PM you.

Casio Exilim is what i have as a digi camera too, i think its a Video one he wants. edit: do they have a video cam version?

We have a Sony Handycam that writes to DVD, its pretty new so dont really know enough to recommend it, it is fuggin sweet to use tho with touch screen LCD etc.

I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

On the subject of quality...

Anything better than this is good enough for me.

That was from last summer taken with a kodak digital camera i had at the time.

I am certain that any video camera I by will be far better than using a digital camera for when want a take a clip of something.

That does look sweet! 5 meg pixl camera?! Looks tiny as well.

If you want to edit the video, DVD cams are NOT the way to go. Get a standard Mini DV cam with a firewire port.

Stay away from any sony cam that uses the MicroMV format, sony has dropped it and is just selling off the stock of them. They also suck.

The films that I have done for Mars where I was filming from inside and outside the Pitts while he was flying, were a MOTHER F'er to edit with my software, such as Sony Vegas 6 and adobe premier. I used his sony camera, which records onto those mini-CD's.

Ease of editing is no doubt for me, the most important thing. It took me three days to get the pitts film to where I could even begin to edit them, while with normal freakin codecs I could have done it in half the time, or less.

It took very nice quality films, his camera... But unless you use the rinkydink software that sony gives you with the camera, editing the film becomes a nightmare.

Dont remember the name of it, but Sony started shipping a model just before xmas that is fairly cheap but the first one to record in HD. Saw a test of it and they were very impressed.

-edit- name is Sony HDR-HC1E
