How do you get one of those USB memory stick devices to work? I have XP Pro and the memory stick light will blink but it isn't being recognized as a drive that is useable.

you should be able to just plug it in and have it work.  You might need to use the windows disk manager to partition and format it, but most come pre-formatted from the store.  It may be defective.  Try using it in another computer and if it doesn't work there, take it back for a refund or exchange.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Works like a charm on winXP. Most times i had trouble it was a motherboard problem. Try to set the ports in the motherboard bios and install any usb driver that came with the motherboard.

Got it to work, had to move it to another port and it took like a charm.  My other problem is in locating usb drivers for my laptop. I am trying to set up a datalogger for my car and bought a cheap old laptop w/windows xp on it but when I hook up the scanner device to my car computer port then plug the usb cable from it into the laptop it says it can't find the drivers for the usb cable. I don't have the original disks, where can I find some drivers?

Thanks for the help so far!
