Okinawa
Rain of Steel
Frame 1 AAR
The defenders of Okinawa fought a hard won battle against the Allied forces last night. In the end the Axis forces were victorious. Congratulations to the Axis forces for pulling off an upset!
The evening began with Allied Carriers moving into positions around the Ryuku Island Chain. Their purpose was to prepare Okinawa for capture. Their forces were strong and had the advantage in both numbers and in the mystery as to the positions of their fleets. Allied Forces began by flying CAP over and near their carriers, ever watchful for the interloping Axis search aircraft.
Axis forces launched multiple bomber and torpedo flights along with fighters heavy for JABO missions. A sweep of several search areas eventually found the Allied Fleets. Attacks were pressed and the Axis bomber forces were decimated but not before carrying out their mission. Torpedo’s in the water and dive bombers overhead sent Allied carriers twisting and turning in order to avoid destruction.
In the end all 5 Allied carriers were sunk. The toll on Allied fighters was high. Axis bombers and fighters alike had accomplished their missions and their objectives for Frame 1, but the toll was also high for the Axis forces.
The frame actually ended a few minutes early, after the 5th Allied carrier was sunk.
But remember there are two more frames to be flown. The Allied Forces are still very much in the battle.
Frame 2 is forthcoming. A new proposition will be levied for both sides of the conflict and the overall battle is still up for grabs. Does the Allied Forces have the ability to come from a slow start and defeat the Axis? Or will the Axis Forces be allowed to continue on a romp of Allied assets? The only way to find out is to attend frame 2!
Thanks to all for attending my first FSO as the designing CM!
