Test fire.  Right.  More like "flexing" if you ask me.  The only reason they do this crap is because they know we dont have enough free muscle to worry them.

You never know - Bushler might want to fight a war on two fronts? Joke aside - I'm more worried about Iran than Kim Jong Il and his commies but your are right about lack of muscle.

And that only accounts for 27% of our troops. ;) In 2004, 387,920 troops were stationed on foreign soil. This figure is out of a total of 1,434,377 personnel. Deployments have ranged from a high of 1,082,777 troops in 1968 to a low of 206,002 in 1999. (Figures are between 1950 and 2004)

We tried N. Korea once.  It wasnt that easy.   I doubt it's gotten easier.

Couple bad things could happen.

1.  Bush could decide he doesnt like N. Korea flipping us the bird and does something about it while we are still committed in Afghanistan and Iraq.

2.  Japan could get tired of waiting for the rest us to keep our promises to control N. Koreaand gain enough support to re-write their constitution and take action themselves.  You want to see a real sh**-storm?  You think the arabs are p***ed at us for being n Iraq?  Wait till you see how the Asian world would react to Japan attacking a nother country.

Personally, I think the Pentagon looks at NK as "Asian problem, they'll call us when they need us".

I think they're also sitting back watching the world get worked up over Iran, but won't go in there alone. Europe probably WISHES we'd go in there alone, that way they can profit on the sideline and point at us as being bad guys while we dismantle the threat...but I believe we'll just sit on the sideline militarily until someone more countries come and joins us.

Both good moves IMO.

I think we should have the Japanese test our new ABM's.
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

SoA2, your "bad things" are not likely for No. 1, and fantasy for the second part of No. 2.

Sure, Japan will most likely change its constitution, since it has ignored Article 9 for the past 20 years, anyway. Its pretty hard to have the 4th largest military budget in the world and still say you don't have a military - with a straight face, at least.

Every country tests its weapons. Me thinks thou art making mountains.

I think he's just letting us know it's time to send more money.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Actually we kicked the North Korean's butt...it was the hundreds of
thousands of Chinese that forced the stalemate.
