SOOO U gots RUBBER bullets huH?
« on: March 09, 2006, 04:32:47 PM »
I had em for a time.  Or at least I THOUGHT I did.

Evidence follows..........

I'm in on a red ikon type!  Line up the shot....  pull the trigger/press the fire button and................  tracers SEEM to go right through him with little or even NO damage.

Same thing IN,... lined up,.... fire,.... totaly MISSED?!?!?  No flashs of hit sprites nada?!?!?  HEY wait a minute here!!!  Kinda looked like the red ikon type sorta flicker/miniwarped!!!!  Had to be!!!!  I KNOW where to shot and I still missed!!!  I was 200 out when I fired and MISSED!!!!  ARRGGH stick stirrin bastage!!!!

HO'n typhie, lala comin at me!!!!  Fire MISSED??? BANG we collided?!?!? wait how could we collide I didn't SEE that on my front end?!?!?  AND WHOA that happened FAST!   GEEZ that red ikon type musta had some EEEeeeee!

Ina 109k4, get on the red ikons 6!  Right at 200!  dot is right on! FIRE! and HUH?????  TOTAL MISS?  FIRE!  GEEZ HOW COULD I MISS THIS CLOSE?

HMMMMMMMM.................... ......  something ain't quite right here............ seems like everything is happening SOOOOO fast anymore!

Except in the occasional 1 v 1 or during early mornings when few are on.

Lookin around and found ....

http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm

Saw someone post about  FSautostart, said he never flew without it.

http://www.fs-gs.com/downloads.htm

Downloaded it.  Read the instructions.   Applied instructions to my system.

Dailup connection here at 37K.

Dailup and connect.

Use FSautostart and my firewall say HEY!  I say ALLOW IT!

Watch as a bunch of services and progs I DON'T NEED for AHII are stopped.

Watch as my memory is optimized.

AHII STARTS.

Log on and fly.

IN on a red ikon type,  line up,  fire, whoa!!!!!  red ikon type has a serious OWIE :aok

MUHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaa aaaaaa

IN on another red ikon type!!!!  WHOA this one is stick stirrin!  EZ now Work for the angle, WORK, WORK, FIRE, BANG MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA  down goes the mean old red ikon type.

UH OH a HO! roll, put in some rudder, angle in, FIRE, BANG, ROLL, ROLL OUT!  HEHEHEHEHEHEHE red ikon type has PROBLEMS NOW!

Hmmmm the Ho SEEMED slower?????  Had more time to fire??? How ODD?

Ina 109k4, on a red ikon type, under 200, FIRE, BANG, red ikon goes BOOM!  HMMMMM in on a another red ikon type, whoa nice move! up, around, roll, whoa! add rudder, deflection shot here, usually miss these, wait for it! wait for it! NOW, FIRE, BANG! MUAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAA  got me some tail! Hey everyone needs a little tail every now and then!:aok

HMMM........... something is different here.............. hmmmmm.......  Seems like I got more time to set up and engage??????  Now number of red and green ikons seems NOT to make a such a big difference!

HMMMMMMMMM................... ........

THINK, THINK, consider, consider,  Constipate, Constipate,

AHHHHHHHHHH.................. .............

OK here is MY OPINION of what was WRONG with MY SYSTEM!!!!!

OH ahhh my system........

AMD barton 2500+
Asus A7V8X-X  Latest BIOS
1 gig ram
WinXP
ATI Radeoon 9800 pro 128 RAM

Usual FPS varied between max of 75 FPS (monitor refresh max is 85) and a low (in a big furball over a base with fires and buff overhead) 8 FPS.

Applied the FSautostart recommendations.

Now get as high as 78 but the low is now more like 24?!?!?!?

Here Ya go.....

the answer is MY MONITOR was LIEING to me!!!!!

Well OK maybe it wasn't, maybe it was my video card. :furious

Thing is WHY???? HOW????

CPU cycles!!!!!!:huh

The more services and programs running WHILE I'm flying the less time my CPU has to talk to my video card!

So my video card is NOT getting constant updates!  So my monitor is NOT showing me WHAT IS!

If my machine isn't painting EVERY frame!  Say it's NOT completing 2 or maybe 3 out of 10 frames at say 75 fps then what I'm seeing actually APPEARS to be FASTER then it really is!  AND the position of the red ikon type MAY be where I see it AND MAY not be where I see it depending on WHEN!   I can fire AT where the con should be and MISS because while my computer KNOWS where the con really is my video card doesn't SHOW IT!  Because it DIDN'T get the information!   Sometimes it worked just like it should and other times NOT!

The faster system out there don't suffer as much from this but they can if TOO many services/background programs are running!

Skuzzy wasn't kidding

What I do now before I log on to AHII!

Reboot system!  Clears the cache!

Run FSautostart!

When done log off.

Reboot system.

Why?  TANSTAAFL!

You gotta choose between all that stuff you want running on your system for sufing and whatnot OR getting good preformance in AHII!

FSAutoStart will restart everything you shut down, so you don't have to reboot after playing the game, at least it does on mine. I love FSAutoStart !!

So how do you choose which programs to cut out? How do you know which you can do without?

Start FSautostart and then select services.  Place the mouse over the service and read!

It has instructions in the readme file.

I kept getting an error message with my anti-virus prog so decided to just log off disconnect and reboot.

Everything resets to normal then.

The mouse over doesn't always work, sometimes you get a "No information avalible" message. Write down the name of the service or file your looking to possibly shut down, and go here http://www.answersthatwork.com/Tasklist_pages/tasklist.htm You can find "most" of the services and tasks listed here. They have been very good for all that I've looked up. Read the info on the srevice or file your qestioning. A lot of the time it will also tell you weather you need the file at all.

Remember, ya can't screw this up! Thats the nice thing about FSAutostart, it doesn't make any permenate changes to your computer!! If you shut something off that causes it to crash, or lock up, just reboot and your back to the original settings. Re-do your "saved file" in FSAUtoStart, and try again.

Sorry, Wrag, just one question - you didn't know that before?
What is your occupation?

Something is going very wrong on this planet. You can't drive a car without driver license. Nobody will sell you any pills without prescription, they don't believe you are smart enough to cure yourself. Insurance company  refuses to pay if you have made any changes in switches in your home because you are not certified electrician.

But everybody who bought a computer consider themself as a specialist. Funny...

Never used fsautostart.

Just hit start=>run then type msconfig and hit enter.

Hit the startup tab. You can pretty much deselect everything, Windows itself will run fine with all startup software disabled. Just look for anything you might actually want, i.e. joystic profiler software, sound mixer, etc...

You can deselect some services and stuff if you feel like getting crazy but it's not usually necassary.

Msconfig since Windows 95 baby!

Yes I knew it but didn't have anything like FSautostart.

I turned stuff off.  But FSautostart does a much better job.  And the post just above yours by The Fugitive explains part of the reason FSautostart is a pretty good program.

Also for awhile didn't need it.  The problems have been fairly recent.  Started up after the introduction of the new smoothing code.  Up till then I could fly pretty much anytime but had to put up with miniwarps.  Now the miniwarps are pretty much gone but SEEMS the plane is NOT always where you SEE it.

OH and FYI this post was NOT for the computer specialist that think they are SOOOOOO WOW that they need to toot their horn of self-wonderfulness so everyone will go woopie for em!

This post is for the OTHERS that fly in AHII.

And surprise!!!! there are allot of people that fly in AHII and don't even have a clue how to fix these things without someone giving them HELP.

Ya Funny!

OK, Wrag, I will try to explain.
What you are suggesting is exactly like this:
"Hey, guys! I have Acura MDX, and manual tells you that you have to fill tank by 91! Forget this, guys! I tried , and it works perfect with 87! Keep your money, don't waste them, stupid manufacture doesn't know even its own vehicle!"

1. Windows provide even more convinient ways to control services running on your system than this program. You just need to look into Windows manual.

2. This progam allows you to shut down some processes and services but the problem is: you have to know what service you can shut down! And if you have no idea about SERVICES in Control panel I bet you don't have a clue what services are crucial, and what are not.

3. 99% of services running on your computer by default don't affect AH in any way. I would say that only antivirus soft plus firewall really affect it. And if you got some improvement in your connection it means that you turned off your firewall.

4. I am working for Internet game industry, and responcible for connectivity, security, etc. About year ago we made some experiments, and they showed that it usually takes about 10 minutes in average before your computer will be attacked from the Internet if you have public IP. If your firewall wasn't running , and you hadn't apllied the latest  patches, you got a problem.

5. I would like to give you advise: never ever again use your computer for access to your bank account, credit card transactions, any sensitive information.

I may be wrong, and you know all that stuff even better than me. But in this case you would better tell us what services you shut down. It would be more useful.

Well Vad, have ya even checked out the program mentioned?

1. Windows provide even more convinient ways to control services running on your system than this program. You just need to look into Windows manual.

Yes you can use windows to shut down services and programs, but you would have to do this each time, or set your computer to boot with these things always off. With this program it does it for you automatically, and only when you want it to.

2. This progam allows you to shut down some processes and services but the problem is: you have to know what service you can shut down! And if you have no idea about SERVICES in Control panel I bet you don't have a clue what services are crucial, and what are not.

If you read the above post you will have ntice that the program has an infomation section and as you "mouse over each service and/or program it trys to let you know what it is and if it is nessisary. Also posted was a site that give very good information on many more services and programs, making it very easy to figure out which ones to shut down and which not to.

3. 99% of services running on your computer by default don't affect AH in any way. I would say that only antivirus soft plus firewall really affect it. And if you got some improvement in your connection it means that you turned off your firewall.

Wrong, with a computer that is on the edge with CPU power, ram, and video ram, should some of these other programs and service start, or are running unnecisarily it will take soome of your computing power away from the game to run them there-by effecting the game.

If you read the last paragraph or so of Wrag original post, you'll see he wasn't talking about connectivity at all, he was talking about CPU cycles and video card not sending all the frames to his screen. I agree a firewall is a good thing, mines a hardware firewall so it take no CPU power away from me. I think its been posted that it is pretty safe to run with-out  your virus protection running while playing the game.

As for a list of things he shut down, or what I did may be a very big differance. I shut down a number of things including print scroller, auto updates, ipod services and such. It depends on what you have installed on your computer. When I fly, I don't need these things so they are off to save power for the game. When not flying I use them so I don't have to re-boot while using this program, it "automatically" starts all those services again.

FSAutoStart also has an option to clean up your ram. Using your computer will clog your ram a bit by leaving stuff in the memories just in case you might need them.... windows trying to be helpfull again...The program will run a quick Defrag on your memmory cleaning it up. For me at a gig of ram, it may not be important, for someone with only 512, it may.

So for non computer geeks, with systems that might not be the mega-monsters some out there have this might be a good answer. With little knowledge, a little bit of reading and some expermenting you can "tweak" a little more speed out of an old box. It may be the differance bettween being playable and not.

Just because windows built the system doesn't mean they know whats right for me or maybe for some others out there too.
