Airfields

Seems like we could find some engineers who knew something about the building of airfields, I mean leaving trees at the ends of runways is a strict NO NO.  Building them in the bottom of bowls is likewise not real good.

Guess we need to decide wheather this is a sim or a game, cause if it is the former the airfields are jacked, if the latter then all is well

Im not sure what your thinking about, but the local airports in my area all have landing beacons taller than the surrounding trees, and they end within 50 yards of the runway.  When Charles Lindberg took off on his famous Atlantic crossing, his plane barely cleared the power lines and trees at the end of the runway.  In a theater of war you build your runway where is is needed and can be done quicly enough....if that means its in a slight bowl, they so be it.

No its not perfect, but it happens

Well, I think it all evens out.  In real life try landing a 234 on a CV, or an SBD on a cruiser.  =)

Or possibly even a D3A on the top of the water tower and surviving.

Your approach for landing would also have to be longer than 20 feet, which is all you really need here in the game.

hmmmmm...i hate those damn trees and short runways...the original game platform has been around long enuf so everyone knows how  to exploit it...that being said the trees are annoying but so is ditching with one wing at 200 mph with a fuel leak...i havent used landing gear in 4 years so a few trees are no biggy.the longer u play the more u realize its just a game..deal with it

We decide this?  I was pretty sure that was up to HTC, and he's been abundantly clear in MANY threads that it is a game.

LoL tell that to the LW guys who were flying by clearings in towns and off any type of flat terrain to conceal their whereabouts.

My Take is they should have small runways and large runways, like some airfields were only smaller aircraft can take off and other bigger ones where aircraft that are larger can take off as well, as well as dirt runways that are harder to hit surrounded by foliage.

I wish we'd have the "Finnish Map" from the CT in the MA.

Trees were a factor for the Luftwaffe.  I've been kilt by em myself, with only myself to blame.

These are not simulated commercial airports.  That said there are a few international airports that have difficult approaches to them due to geography or the layout of the city.  Many of the MA maps were provided by players.  If you think you can do a better map, knock yourself out.  Be prepared to spend months of free time creating one that is up to MA standards.  And if you would choose to do that, you would find out that it is not a simple matter to remove trees adjacent to an airfield and not affect the look of the map where there is no airfield.  The tree issue has already been worked on though, and Id suggest your glide plane is wrong if trees are truely in your way.

landing wheels up, unless forced to by vulchers/gear damage, is just lazy. cannot believe you have failed to make one decent landing in 4 years jaxxo.

it maybe just a game, but imagination is what makes it more than 'just a game' for alot of folk.

edit: and while we're on the subject, i really think that a bomb crater in a runway should mess your plane up.

seriously, infact im gunna write a wish list thread about that now.

Thanks that solves my problems on alot of things, no more complaints here thanks for the answers boyz.

BTW I love how some of you come up with RL examples, so for those of you that do please point me to the historical WWII squadron that fielded both LW and Allied aircraft in abundant quanities :)

I always thought the airfields were put in "bowls" because in some of that terrain, that's where you find a piece of flat ground long enough to make a runway out of.  The valley effect.

I expend a great deal of imaginary energy trying to forget that it's a game.
