Google made me rich.. no BS
« on: March 13, 2006, 09:31:51 AM »
I decided to Google my name for the heck of it, found me self on a "whereabouts unknown" list on The Office of the Special Trustee for American Indians website.. it says they owe me $$.

So I call the 888 number...
Turns out the US Govt has owed me money for THIRTY EIGHT YEARS, 38!... it's been in a high yield interest earning account since the day I was born... we're talking huge, they lady on the phone, her exact word were "Lets see I found your name and, uh...oh my god.."

Apparently any unclaimed accounts in my family go to me, not all accounts are $$ based, I have land somewhere in Kansas they've been taking care of for me.

My father has a significant amount of Native American blood, at birth I had some "payback" $$ placed in an account...  over the years they lost my info and kept investing my money... 38 years later its "a nice chunk of change"

So I'm thinking this is all pretty cool.

Edit: I just read some of these accounts are worth 5.75 Million ea, 12,700 accounts with balances totaling $69 million... most were deposited on the same day are are fo equal amounts. I wont know my exact award until I ill out some paperwork.

Did they ask you for a credit card number and/or your SSN? :huh

Incidently, I consider myself "rich" anytime I discover I have $20 cash in my wallet that my kids or wife haven't discovered yet...:aok

Not that it matters to me, I don't have a touch of indian blood in me.

Unfortunately I am not listed on the site.  :cry

About 7 years ago I got about $80 back from the State's office on unclaimed funds after searching their web site.  Turned out that the company that I worked for during a college internship had a check for me for reimbursed parking expenses.  :aok

Congrats! That IS cool! Hope it's not a scam.. would advise putting a good lawyer or accountant on it immediately.

Again... that's just GREAT news all around. Love to see a guy get 'touched'... makes living life that much more interesting, dontcha think? ;) :aok

Well my wife.... I shoulda never told her ::cries:: is doing the "happy dance", I'm pinching myself thinking how exactly to rub this in my X-gf's face.

The wifes dancing afer we started reading up on the issue, congress is apparently about to settle the below case, which I am verified a part of, for BILLIONS of additional dollars. I had no idea my name was involved with any class action suit.

http://www.indiantrust.com/

However much it is, I'm told that I will be flown to Kansas to collect.

If your name is on the list.... there's $3.3 BILLION hanging out collecting interest.
http://www.indianz.com/News/2006/012835.asp
"The federal government held $3.3 billion in trust for tribes and individual Indians as of 2005, according to a recent financial report from the Department of Treasury.

In 2005, the tribal trust fund balance was $2.9 billion. Receipts were $518 million, up from $414 million in 2004. "

http://www.indianz.com/News/2006/012774.asp
"Depending on the error rate and interest rate, a settlement could be worth anywhere from $5.6 billion to $9.8 billion, Bickerman said. He didn't recommend these figures outright but urged lawmakers to reject the Interior Department's suggestion that less than $500 million is owed."

(with my luck, they'll fly me out there and present me with my .22c check after all deductions)

Edit: thanks! for the kind thoughts, I'm FREAKING THE F OUT... I'm the guy who gets hit by stray bullets (ture story), if not for bad luck.. I'd have none at all. The last time I won or was awarded anything was a dart board I won from the Ft.Sill PX in 1988.

No BS, if by some odd twist of fate I actually have an obscene amount of $$ waiting, yes... drinks on me even if I'm not there.

They wont tell me how much, but I know its me for sure... they sent me 1 check when I was 18, I thought it was a 1 time thing... bought a 1984 VW GTI

They tried to send additional settlement monies later that year... but I had moved out, and was on active duty. They don't forward checks no matter what, so it was sent back and has been collecting interest since (20 years), along with what was already there (add interst from birth 18 years).

During these past 20 years, various groups & tribes have sued and won millions for various other US Govt misdeeds (like flooding Indian land), those winnings were distrubuted to these interest bearing IIM accounts... even for those who, like me, were "whereabouts unknown" for 20 years.

People who have land, these trustees have been managing the land, some is farm land, some timber even oil reserves.. and profit the land yeilds goes into the IIM account.

..and now we have a possible 6 to 9 more billion in "we're sorry" money from congress.

I'm actually very nervous, the lady on the phone at the Govt office specifically said they dont give out "this kind of money" without my showing up in person.
