Locking Up Every Time!

A couple of weeks ago AH started locking up and crashing to desktop every single time I logged into any arena.  This is still the case.  Sometimes it happens in the tower, sometimes, in the hangar, and sometimes in the cockpit or field gun.  It always happens soon, though, within 60 seconds after arriving in the tower.  Here are my system specs and the things that I have already tried:

Pentium 4, 1.5Ghz
512 RAM
Nvidia Ti 4600

I have uninstalled and re-installed the software, tried various drivers for the vid card (61.77, 81.98), restarted my DSL connection (DSL modem connection is network cable, not USB), uninstalled my joystick and joystick software, and none of it works.  The message I get from AH is 'Host stopped receiving UDP signal', or something to that effect.  I realize I have a slower system, but I've been getting acceptable frame rates until this crashing started.  Any ideas?

While you're waiting for some experts replies ... is your virus scan or firewall set to allow AH2 full access? Any update programs running in the background? This is common and 90% of the time it's some program that overrides the game connection.
Just something to check while your waiting....hope it works!

i think you still need the 56.xx drivers for the ti4600 card ...

another thing that could be causing the crash is sound driver and or sound excelleration....  try turning down a notch .

if its still giving ya probs do a  
start/run / dxdiag
and post up the 1st 1/3rd  of the report and we'll look it over for ya

I have the same set-up and I'm using the updated 81.98 drivers without any problem, so I don't think going back to the 56.xx drivers will  resolve the problem.  It might be a problem with the ISP provider.

U should be using 61.77 drivers for that card.  The new drivers will actually hurt your performance for that card and also cause problems for the card to function properly.  More then likely its the driver that is your problem.  I use to have that card many moons ago and I couldn't use driver versions higher then 61.77.

I previously rolled back my drivers to the 61.77 drivers as had been recommended in the forums and that resulted in a worse performance.  As stated in my previous post, I am currently using the 81.98 drivers without any problems.

is it only locking up just for ace's high or is it other games too?

Well, losing UDP is going to be connection related.

I don't know, but hazarding a guess I'd say possibly a conflict with something running (competing for the connection?), a firewall/AV blockage, or a basic run-of-the-mill ISP problem.

I can trigger this lock-up almost immediately by using the gun zoom (default 'z' key).  Maybe my video card is finally on its death bed.  I can let the 'ping info' on the initial clipboard go on forever and it seems fine, no spikes or lost packets.  Except that every now and then a packet gets counted as lost, but that almost immediately disappears and the 'packets lost' value is back to zero.  Any thoughts on triggering a lock-up by using the gun zoom?  Thanks for all the other responses, I hope to be back in the skies soon.

Aces High is the only program I'm having problems with.  My kids have been playing Toontown frequently for quite awhile, and there has never been a problem with that connection.

Toontown doesn't use your video card to its potential that it would heat up.  Now AHII will and I for see your video card memory chips or the GPU itself is heating up and failing when under load.  Now they do make programs out that like powerstrip and a few others that u can actually declock it some and see if problem goes away.

I also have a Ti 4600 with recent lockups too.

It appears my lockups are sound related, in addition to, the Ti 4600 problem.

AH support emailed me> "No recourse as lockups are due to a C-media  sound chip."  I recently ebay'd a used sound card and will give it a try anyway.

Reinstalling older 61.77 driver over the 8X.XX seemed to just increase the length of time until the lockups occur.
