The yearly session of 18 hours of standardized testing is here again, be it the last for me, but i need some good material to read in the downtime in between the 3-4 tests per day. I was hoping some of you would have some ideas for good WW2 or engine books. Any that you could find at a Barnes and Nobel would be just fiiiiine. Thanks.

For fiction, check out the Worldwar series by Harry Turtledove. We've spoken about it before on this message board, search the archives. The premise is that at the height of WWII, aliens with roughly modernday technology invade.

It examines the historical figures of WWII in a different light, and it's a darn good story to boot.

I suggest Aces Wild: The Race for Mach 1 by Al Blackburn. ISBN 0-8420-2732-2, published by Scholarly Resources.

There's the potential problem that you'll not put it down until you finish it..

Playboy's Bartender guide. It's got a lot of good information about the different liquors and such. Not so much on the bartending part though.

So far, it's every bit as enjoyable as Cryptonomicon.

Or if you want to laugh your arse off, Catch-22 is set in WWII. The main character is a B-25 bombardier. Short book...quick read...classic satire. The author, Joseph Heller, was a WWII B-25 bombardier in real life with 60 combat missions.

Do quick scifi, like Ender's Game or that turtledove series, or Dune. Cryptonomicon also rules, but you pry wont dent them during your testing. Must read

I figure it will be a cumulative time of at least 1 hour throughout the entire times, if not more. A few short reads wouldn't be bad, the only book I have is a 2 inch thick book about The Beatles. All my others are packed away:(

And I forgot to go to the book store, and the library is closed tomorrow.
