Next RPS: Pacific Theatre of Operations
« on: March 15, 2006, 01:11:46 PM »
Gents,

We have several maps we can use for the RPS.
- Coral Sea
- Okinawa
- Rangoon
- Slot

Two possible scenarios we can run with:
- 1939-1945: Britian and the Commonwealth (Canada, New Zealand, & Australia) vs Japan OR
- 1941-1945: United States vs. Japan

Options:
- combine the Commonwealth battle with Japan with the American battle
- keep each PTO battle seperate

What I would like to hear are some setup options for the PTO. Run around 3 weeks.  Map use should be at a minimum for one week.  Maps can be used more than once, to represent different years and PTO progressions.

Before we post our proposal, I would like ideas on how you think it would work.

why not do both?  one part of the map for the spits the other for wildcats and so on. three weeks might be a little long for a PAC set up though, they just aren't that popular usually.

:rofl Britian...hehehe  got me AGAIN.

We could include Britain, but it's a PITA to setup two different countries map wise - it's a lot harder to program the airfields and manage rolling in new aircraft. One combined force works.

But we could do USAAF/USN vs IJN/IJA for a time set, then jump to the Commonwealth vs IJN/IJA, but why not run with USAAF/USN vs IJN for two weeks then another PTO vs the Brits?

Just an idea, but it might be nice to start a setup without the RAF, just once.

Yes there would be.

You can start a PTO without the RAF very easily.

RPS: USA vs Japan

Day 1 - War Begins - Day of Infamy December 7, 1941
Map: Hawaii (sub Okinawa)
IJN CV Groups
A6M2
B5N2
D3A-1
LVT's
PT Boats

Pearl Harbour USAAF
P-40E
C-47E

I was thining about this timeline. Start with Pearl Harbour - work our way through two or three maps representing several important battlelines, introducing aircraft as they became available...

It would  be nice just for once to not have to fight a spit or a hurricane.... In the pacific theater lets try to keep as historical as possible. What do people think of when they hear the words " battle of the pacific"? They think of Zero's Vs Corsairs and Hellcats... They think of USAAF/USN vs IJNAF...

after all if even a Duxford boy says it would be nice for a little change I think that means it's time for a change...  I think some people can agree that seeing nothing but Spits, hurris, and seafires is getting a bit boring....

Bottom line its time to get rid of any RAF affilitation when thinking about setting up a Pacific theater...

Didnt you see my avatar. I'm not a Duxford boy. I'm a Duxford Old Geezer!:D

I guess it depends on where your from. To me the early PTO brings visions of P-40's P-39s', and F4F's, against Zekes, and Oscars, around the Philipenes, and the Solomons. To a guy from the UK it may bring visions of Hurri's, and Buffalos, against Zekes, and Oscars , around Singapore, and Rangoon.

I agree.  A Pacific Campaign would have to rely heavily on US/Japanese carrier based aircraft, to truly represent the past.
