What did you drive in High School?

Some of you "older fellas"... if you only kept some of those cars. My aunt had a 57 nomad then a 57 bel air. After highschool she had a few mustangs and a vette. The two cars I would kill to own which she had was a boss 302 that my father said the clutch was so stiff he could hardly walk on his left leg after driving it and the 57 Nomad. Both of which she parked in the field behind the barn at my grandfathers house and let rot into the ground. The same field where all the farm equipment was "put to rest". The only thing left worth anything by the time I was old enough to start loving cars,  was a 71 malibu with a crappy 305. That my stupid cousin con'd my grandfather in giving to her boyfriend at the time who broke up with her several months later.

A friend had a '72 detomaso pantera that he thoroughly trashed.  no telling what that car would be worth now.  another friend had bmw 2002 tii that would go 115mph all day long.  that got trashed as well.  another friend had a '68 GTO another a '65 GTO another a superbee another a roadrunner another '69 Z28 with the 302 that was evil fast.  all those cars got trashed.  I wish I had garaged mine and kept it, but I trashed them both as well.  we tended to be rough on the equipment, still do.

The one I'm still kicking myself in the a**  over is  the 70 challenger  that I had all restored except for paint.  I was 19 working in the salvage yard full time, had full access to all the parts at cost.  I had swapped K-member so I could put the 440 in . The thing was all set  440, 4 speed, Dana 60 rear . I welded new floors in Interior was all set  had the seats reupholster. All the car needed was paint.
This car kept me broke because as soon as I had my paycheck some parts were purchased. Then one day a friend of my boss came in waving 5k in cash , well being 19 and dumb I jumped.  A month later the guy comes back with the car all painted .   I then proceed to smack my head against the garage wall repeatedly.

A car in high school? In my dreams, my Father didn't even have a car. I didn't have a bicycle never mind a car. None of us kids had cars back then. Except for one guy once. He had an imported American '64 Mustang! It was battered but it worked.

I believe it's all changed now with the advent of the Celtic Tiger economy. Some kids now have their own cars.  I remember reading that teachers were complaining that the students were taking up all the parking spaces in the schools:lol Not only that they drove better cars than the teachers! Times have changed.

i absolutely LOVED my Mini.  Always something minor going wrong with it but then that just adds to the fun of owning one.

So much fun to drive, you can just throw it around corners with a big smile on your face.  It is terrible for motorway driving, long distances etc though.  I dont know how many of them you have over there, but here there are a fair few about and no two are the same.  Each one really is unique because there is so much stuff you can do to them.   Mine was red and white like the picture i posted, for the world cup in 2002 i got two red sun visor strips, turned the roof into a giant St.Georges Cross (England flag).  It looked fantastic so i left it like it!

So many great memories.  Such a 'character' which i have not found in another car.  If you get chance to own one do it, you will not regret it.  I am 6" and didnt have a prob fitting in mine.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Both the 69 Z-28 302 blocks, code DZ and code MO, were large journal. We used to restore 2-3 a year. They aren't as common anymore, most are either already restored or already destroyed. The 1967 Z-28 302 was small journal though. Only done two of them, there were only 602 built.

doh, hehe, that's right. I was thinking of cleveland blocks. I had one of them too, and just got through getting rid of it. Now all that's left is a 351 windsor and the DZ block.

If one of you chevy guys are interested in the DZ block let me know. I will be putting it on ebay otherwise. I will take all the pictures you like.

Edit: Of the block that is.

I saw a '71 240Z with a shoehorned 302/camaro drive train a long time ago but never saw the car run.  it must have been a handful.  it was a clean installation on a clean car.
