Me being stupid me, I didn't check the mic input on my GNX4 before i went to the store. So I get there, wander around a little, oggling at the guitars and amps, etc. I talk to the guy and he sets me up with a $22 mic stand, i'm not happy with that price, but what the hell, they are small and it's a pretty damn sturdy stand. I go over to the mics and get the talk about how they sell so many of the mics that I got to churchs and how they are great. Is it the 3 pronged or 1/4" input? I say 1/4". DOH! 69.00 for the Mic and $22 for the stand, grab some picks and i'm ready to go. Grand total of $102.70 makes me feel a little queezy, but i keep it under control. Anyway, get through it all and they say ALL SALES FINAL. I'm thinking whatever, we tested it, it works fine. Get home and guess what? Mic input is 3 prong not 1/4".

Question is, you think they will let me return it for an equal product or will I have to get an adaptor (do they even make those?) or will I have to wait until next week for my paycheck and another mic? Completely my fault unless you say the lady was ignorant in her product facts (I told her it was a GNX4).

Sans the "You got totally ripped!" comments please.

XLR sure, I might call them seeing as I don't want to drive anothe 5 minutes only to hear them say "all sales final". Since it's been opened they have to A) Return to vendor or B) Sell at a lower price That's what we have to do anyway. Like I said, they are small so they probably don't profit a TON like a chain such as Guitar Center so they are less willing to take stuff back. The guy did mention the microphone specifically when he said all sales final because they can be dropped, so I might still have a chance, albeit a slim one.

Doesn't hurt to ask. They may not refund money but possibly could exchange mics for the one you need, if they have one.

Get moving, you have three days anyway by Federal law to renege on a purchase, so legally they have to refund your money if you want to press the issue...provided it's within three days of the purchase.

Disregard the "law" ultimatum I mentioned above. Possible it may not apply here.

Always better to use the good-ol-boy approach, but I know nothing about how music stores operate. One thing about it, it would be good business for them to exchange the product and not give you a hard time. If they do, they lost at least two customers. You and whoever you tell about it.

The best thing would have been to ask ahead of time, "You know, if it turns out I'm wrong about the adaptor and it's three prong instead of 1/4", would it be alright to bring it back for exchange? Cause I'm ready to buy this now." They'd rather make the sale than take a chance you might not come back later.

Did you buy it with cash or credit card? If you used a credit card you can return it or use the buyer protection and stop payment. As much as I hate credit cards, buyer protection is a great feature. You can also see if they have an adapter if you don't want to get all huffy with them.

I figure if I can't return it, and if they even make it, I can get an adapter for cheaper then a whole other microphone. I'm going to call today at lunch, seeing as I bought it yesterday. I can just as easily go to some other small music store or Guitar Center if want to. I choose to go there because it's the closest store to me, and the couple that works there seem pretty friendly from my 2 interactions with them. Thanks for all the ideas guys.

What of this buyer protection though? I return the mic and they get no money or something? I could probably just as easily go to Guitar Center and pic up a $20 microphone if I wanted, seeing as they have a much larger selection.
