I wish it was only one lockup per logon.  I am running a dual processor (64x2 Athlon) with nVIDIA GeForce 61100.  I go to a sky blue screen or lock up with a gray screen.  Also when trying to sign on at times I get a gray screen with the hangar flap rotating around the clip board.  I have had more discos than ever before since this version was loaded.  Need to find a solution.

Do you run FS Autostart?

I just found out about this thing on another thread.  Freebie, too.

Kind of a big macro, that will allow you to identify all those hidden processes running in background, and selectively shut them down for gameplay, while not actually changing any of your settings.  It starts itself, then my TrackIR, then AH in a clean, low-overhead condition.

No promises or anything, but you've got a lot of horsepower.  Should be running better.  Try this out, and see if it doesn't clear up the mystery conflict that's crashing your system.

I had few problems to begin with...plenty of horsepower, and a typical 47ms ping from New York to Dallas.   However, I could see definite improvement when running Autostart.

Good Luck

Disable one of the CPU cores.  It will solve most problems.  There is a bug in XP, related to the dual core AMD CPU which causes these odd problems.  Seems to be really exacerbated when using an NVidia video card as well.

Ive seen some studder aswell , but its not at a low frame rate . My monitor cap is 100hrz, and i notice studder at 85fps at times .  It usually shows itself at higher alts when there are 8-10 planes around . I just reformated when the new version came out.

My  Video settings are 1280X1024 2XAA,0AF Vsync enabled,  512 textures, preload in system mem , preload skins, ingame sliders @ default , running 81.98 Nvidia driver.

At first i thought it was my sound pack (waffle), but ive removed them and still the same . I have directx sound accell @3/4th's. Pc specs below .

The combination of 2XAA and 512 texture size is probably overloading the video card memory.  Just try it without AA to see if that cures the stutters.  Or turn down the max texture size to 256 and try it.

That is just a guess.  Typical stutters are resource related (i.e. running low or out of a resource).

If it's directly related to the fan load, could it be a power supply issue?

I'm sure there's a right way, but I don't know it.

I know you can look up the power draw for each component, and compare the total to the power supply specs, but that could be awful time consuming if you don't have the stuff at hand.

If nobody can give you an proper way of making the right tests, I suppose you can just go for broke, add plenty of power, and see what happens.  A power supply should be pretty straightforward to replace.

If you've added any components, or changed any for something that may draw more power, you may have easily exceeded the capacity of the PS in an off-the-shelf box.  I don't think they usually put in power supplies with excess capacity for expansion, like a custom- or home-built would be likely to have.

Still...just guessing.

I remember that for awhile 250 watts was big-time.

Now, I know I've seen 'em at 450 watts, and there are probably bigger.  Without knowing your component power requirements it's a gamble, but I'll betcha' a 400-450 watt unit would do the trick, if it's the trick that needs doing in the first place.

If you know what I mean.

Whew...it's most assuredly Friday.

Oh, yeah...you could check the output of your current PS, then get one twice the size.  Kinda like killin' flies with a sledgehammer, but hey, why do the job twice, right?  :D
