Apollo and the new CEV - which is a scaled up CM. A guy from Orbiter setup the situation and docked them.

I think NASA better seriously consider consulting with Burt Rutan and Co. concerning his recent successful X Prize shot.

His concept for a self-righting, self-aligning, non-computer controlled re-entry vehicle is a huge, huge paradigm shift in costs, safety and complexity for these kinds of vehicles.  In fact, during the prize-winning shot, the vehicle's limited guidance computer actually failed...and the thing lined up and dropped on course without a hitch.

Ever wonder what it would be like to live in the lifetime of a genius?  I think this cat's well and truly going down in history, and his concepts and developments in aerodynamics are as revolutionary as the Wright's.  NASA should be following this guy's lead...

If you ask me, there's no aircraft designer/aerodynamicist that can even touch what this guy is capable of.

The designs are definitely atypical, which I believe is part of his genius...outside the box, and all that jazz.

I also think it makes his creations quite beautiful and sculptural...

Ever see his preliminary designs for a single-seat combat aircraft?  Backinthe 80's.  A little tiny composite thing, with a cruise-missile turbine engine and a 20mm chain gun.  The really cool thing was that he set the engine and cannon essentially side-by-side, and offset out from the centerline.. Engine intake on one side, cannon port on the other.  Cool stuff.

No doubt, this guy knows how air works.

Ever been unfortunate enough to watch Iron Eagle 3? The ARES makes an appearance in it as the Me263. Along with a P-51B dressed up as a 109, and a P-38 with turbo boosters.

To keep from hijacking this thread though, I think NASA will go back to the more traditional rocket launched pod ideas. At this point, the safety record is probably better, and it's most definately more cost effective than the space shuttle.

ARES..That's it!  Thanks for the kick in the noggin' :D

However...the Iron Eagle thing...

Are we talking about the Iron Eagle where members of the Lollipop Skwad and Lou Gosset, Jr. steal F-15's to rescue someone's daddy?

Urgh.  Bleh.  Ack.

The first one came out when I was young enough to possibly like the story, and it still blew chunks.

Personally, I couldn't get through the credits on 2, and ignored 3.  Just not my cup o' coffee.

Back to topic, tho...Someone needs to throw money at this guy.  He's smart, practical, deliberate and highly creative...and his team are equally astute and professional.  I don't doubt they could solve most problems presented them, given time and funds.

Kinda like the old NASA usta' be, when they could put men on the Moon using vacuum tubes and slide rules.

Makes ya' wonder, hmmm?
