A good CRT will always look better than an LCD. LCD monitors are cheaper to manufacture than CRTs and that has been the driving force in the mass distribution of LCD and fading out of CRT - higher margins.

If you're prone to headaches from CRT refresh, LCDs will relieve that.

Each person responding will give you their anecdotal feeling about it. Here's mine ;) I switched from a very high-end 21" CRT to a 20" high-end LCD and have adapted to it easily. I don't get eye strain from it and I'm satisfied with the resolution and reduced footprint on my desk. But I'm an old guy with old guy eyes now...

One word of advice: There are only a handful of manufacturers now, so you're usually better off buying from the original manufacturer than a company buying OEM from those manufactuers. For example, Viewsonic is made by Panasonic and Sony, but they are lower spec than any models they will put their nameplate on. The circuit boards parts and internal connectors have shorter life spans. LCD panels themselves are sorted after manufacture and those not quite meeting spec are used in OEM models.

Whatever looks best to your eye is the one you should get!

If I had money burning a hole, I'd go looking for a BIG Crt.

But then I tend to be old school.

I know a lot of people have the lcd's and like them.
Myself I'll stick with a CRT for the time being.

Possible exception would be if you could afford at 52 " plasma as a monitor.

That might just rock enough to tempt me.  :)

The only reason I bought a 21" CRT recently was because I could get it for $50 with guarantee. I wouldn't even dreaming of paying for a new one, I prefer LCDs.

I bought a new 22'' mitsubishi crt  about 6 months ago from tiger direct $148.00 . It was brand new , not a refirb and it does 1920X1440 @85hrz, 1600X1200 @100hrz and 1280X1024 @120hrz.  The only bad thing is that it has a dell nameplate on it , but for that price i could live with it . I would check around , sometimes tiger gets these in ,but as of late they arent offering them . GL

I went with a 58" DLP because the plasmas still have motion artifacts and burn-in issues.  The way I fly, the Tower would be permanently burned into the screen.:D

I used to have a 19 inch crt that was nice, but it was really hard on the eyes, so i went over to a 19 inch lcd and am really glad i did! Colour accuracy used to be an issue, but these days most mid to high quality lcds have superb quality. And as long as you have a good enough refresh rate they are perfect for gaming, tho i use mine mainly for photoshop.

LCD's don't suffer from burn-in but may have ghosting if response time isn't fast enough.  My Samsung 17" LCD doesn't have any dead pixels but it is rarely turned on since I prefer the 58".  Some LCD makers only replace a screen with 8 or more dead pixels.

Last time I had to replace an LCD monitor, they told me it was 12 or more dead pixels. I believe it was a viewsonic monitor. Either way, if its changed since then or not it still sucks having little black dots pepper your screen.

Since then, I've went back to my older 20 inch sony CRT.

I, just yesterday, orderd a 21" Sony Trinitron (Dell OEM) CRT from hcdi.com for $129.99. I'll just put a sticker or somethin over the Dell nameplate. I've never had an LCD and probably wont buy one until "the man" makes me. All I see is the front of the damn thing anyway. :D

I like CRT's better than LCD's, too.  To me, they have more vibrant color, images seem crisper, and I like that you don't have any weirdness based on viewing angle.

Little black dots that may or may not be an inb badguy UGH!
It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Thats no lie. I can't tell you how many times I thought I seen a bad guy which just turned out to be a speck of something on the monitor and just wipe it off.
