Hopefully one of the fixes Pyro eludes to includes letting us log in via the alternate route if the primary is down.  Most of us could see the alt route... but you have to log in through the primary first.  I bet HT and Pyro already though of that.  :)

An alternate route to the CT would rock too.  :)

yeah HTC, its not like we're gonna die without AH for a day or two. But three might be another story  ;)

When everybody got dumped last night 7 of us were left in the MA happily playing away.
Once we realised everybody else had dumped we soon realised we had all logged in via the Alt route when we originally joined.
Unfortunately it seems as we each lost our rides that was when we also got kicked.

Worst outage I have had to endure in 6 years of doing this.

I was here at about 2:30am when they finally got the fiber cable repaired and lights started to flash again.  Had to be the longest day I have ever endured.  Not from a time point of view, just the stress of knowing you guys were without yer fix and there was not a dang thing I could do about it.

The true downside of fiber.  It takes an enormous amount of time to repair a fiber cable that has been yanked from its home by a backhoe.
I suspect to see the circuits bouncing all day today while they make permanent repairs.

Sigh.

Maniac, everything may run smooth as silk, but then I just saw a 5 minute bounce 10 minutes ago.
I am familiar with what happens when a backhoe rips a telephone cable from the ground, and it is not a pretty sight.
The cable not only eventually gets sheared at the backhoe, but it is usually ripped partially, if not fully from the junction box it interconnects to.
The rip in the cable is just the start.  Any stress fractures in the fiber will cause very odd things to happen to the signal it is carrying.  Attenuation is totally out of spec for the strand at that point and it must be replaced.

Now, I have not seen the physical damage that occurred, so it is possible everything will be fine, but I just wanted to let the community know there is a chance of the MAIN bouncing a bit today.

Yea... they prob placed a "splice". They might have to run an entire span of new fiber after checking the old span for any fractures... can you say outage?

P.S. Hey you know whats sooooo cool about fiber and the way its engineered... its suppose to be redundent. The funny thing is both sides of the ring are found in the same cable... go fiqure. We saw it here during a an icestorm...

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".
