Quick Question

Is there anyone working on some 475th J skins?  With their being only 1 38J skin that is 475th it gets kinda old flying it.  Need more variety of 38J skins that were flown by the 475th.  Being one of the more popular WW2 P38 squads, surprised there isnt more than just 1.

Well, unfortunately I couldn't really find any 475th Js...
but in trying to research, I did find this, which I intend on doing

Yes, it's a real bird, but tough to find information on. I've seen a couple of B&W pics of it so that's definitely real.

As far as a 475th, I would do one if I could find more examples. I've been really REALLY tied up with school (only 3 more months), so my stuff always takes forever (like that P-51 I started last year. hahaha).

Now THAT is a J skin I'd use regularly!!

There are very few P38 skins that I "love"... Most I just "tolerate". You make that one and I'd "love" it.

Krusty... it's ok to "love" your 38, just not ok to Loooooooove your 38. ;-)

Thanks for the comments guys. I've got a couple weeks of school break, and since I've already got a my previous template(s?!) I can use for the J, I was going to do this off the template. I'm kind of considering doing a "pacific weathered" style metal, with tanish discoloration around the panel lines, but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Also, if anyone else out there has more information on this aircraft, that would really help me get it accepted when it gets to submission time. Thanks =)

It's  clearly 44th FS, 18th FG "The Vampires"  I have their squadron history.  No specific info on that bird in it, but the blue checked radiator is the giveaway.

Whatever happened to the P-38J "Black Market Babe" that Fester was working on?
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Wow Guppy. That's a huge piece of information right there. In my research, I had thought it would have been 18FG/12FS, as "Billy's Filly" looks very very similar to it. Didn't think it might be same group but different squadron.

Thanks! It gives me another direction to go in!

Found info on a decal website claiming it's 433rd FS, 475th FG.  But it also claims it's a J-10 when it's more then likely an L-1 from early 45.

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/decals/super/48/ss481018.htm

I don't believe that's even close to correct as the 433rd numbering never was in the 200s.  They were numbered from 170-199

I believe you are correct about it being a 12th FS bird.  the 44th was also 18th FG but it's P38s were numbered in the 400 range.  12th FS birds were in the 200 range.

Knite.  Did some digging and this is what I've found.

This is a P-38L of the 12th Ftr. Sqd. flown by 1Lt Gene Sommerich.

Image is from the collection of Jack Cook who has a ton of 44th FS photos as well as others from the 18th FG.
